And a fine steward of it you've been. Way better than I'd have been and driven it a thousand times more than I would've. Brett almost drove the car on the test drive more than I'd driven it in its entirety in the short time I was it's caretaker.
These threads kill me. Its almost a contest of who can find more incorrect parts or date codes. People seem to forget these cars were intended to get abused.. if driven as intended they should have been apart a few times. I can appreciate a concourse restoration but I hate the standard any GS455 car is held to on this board when it is listed for sale.. I distinctly remember a board member dogging a very nice 70 GSX with California emissions because the hose to the charcoal canister was below some other vacuum line while it should have been above... call the scrap guy.
Exactly. We'll spoken. When Chris bought this car many years....nothing but congratulations! Now that it's out of a board members hands, there is so much wrong with it. And guy above saying he'd be a buyer at 15k. Really, no $h!t. You would be stupid not too. I'd buy them all up @ 15k. A white apollo gsx is my dream car. Can I afford a real one? Absolutely not. Would I drove it if I did have the $$$ Probably not. Too scared to what would happen to my investment. There is no fun in that. I would drive the piss out of this thing, smiling from ear to ear. Do I care that it's not real or how many times I get asked if it is? Absolutely not. Already at 32,500 Probably going to be out of my budget at auction end. Wish I could have pulled the trigger months ago, and hopefully made a deal around what it's at now price wise.
Some of it could be considered bashing… and some of this is EDUCATION. If I was new in the buick world, and I bought this car thinking it was the real thing and all of that… only to find out it wasn’t…. Or, to consider all of the things that need to be corrected to have a “correct” car… Hence, threads like this DO serve a purpose.
Right on. I'm just going by what was said earlier. That it was on ebay..went for mid 30's and buyer never came through. Maybe seller didn't want to sell of for 35 or whatever it was bid too. Who knows.
I don't really see any nitpicking/bashing of the car in this thread other than it not being #'s matching and having been made into something it's not.
Sorry for my lack of clarity Dano. Len Immke was the Buick dealership that sponsored and raced 68/69/70 and 71 GS cars with Dick Baker as the driver. The dealership was located in Columbus, OH. Warren Hartman once owned the car we are discussing in this thread and Warren lived in Worthington, a suburb of Columbus. There is a very high probability this is the same car shown in this picture. As some of you suggested it was ordered to race - turns out by Len Immke. How many 10/10 cars fit that bill and happen to be out of the same city and dealership? Scott purchased the car off Warren and created what we see in the way of a GSX 4 speed, who subsequently sold it to Chris. As cool as these old race car pictures are, it wouldn't make much sense to try to convert the clone back into the Immke offering of the 70s IMHO.
Thanks Brian. Kinda figured it was that one. Even if I had the time, space, &/or $ I prob. wouldn't buy it b/c I'd feel compelled to restore it either to orig. or to how it looked in the pic.
So it’s a 1970 Stage 1 stock eliminator car. Built and bought to race w pedigree. That’s way cool. To hear the crying here is. Shame. And only worth 15k, lol. Yeah sure. Good luck to the new owner. Enjoy it. Don’t sign up here. You will only be ridiculed. Your car is bad Azz for sure.
huh? Seems to me there was a BOATLOAD of unknown information about this car uncovered in this thread- including it’s race history… by purists, who love these Buick’s as how they rolled out of the factory. They posted their opinion on the car, and why. Also had quite a few people say how nice the car was. And the new owner SHOULDN’T join here?!? Would the new owner, or many of us here, have known this cars history if it WASNT for this board? These threads stimulate discussion, trigger memories, and uncover truths…. Which then leads to education and the passing of knowledge. Although some people may state their opinions on what they would do with this car if it was theirs, they ALL would help out the new owner, in any way, shape, or form they could offer….. despite who, what, where, when, and how this car or was or will be. If the new owner is watching this thread, they would be welcomed with open arms.
I remember when Chris had this car I always wished I would have stepped up and bought it from him Im not a purest ,most of my cars have been far from orig I ussually don’t care how they left the factory .I thought it was a beautiful car back then Very cool knowing more about it and it’s heritage as a race car
When it was in Warrens garage in the 90's ( can't remember which time but it was 5 years apart ) he pointed at it and said it was a Stage 2. IIRC it was solid white with a Stage 2 scoop. So I kinda doubt the hood is original to the car. For it to have needed as much rust repair as it appeared to need, it must have been driven 3-5 winters or sat outside a good many more, sometime before Warren had it.
