I would assume Head Porter Dave Johnson as he used to reside in the PNW (built me an awesome set of ported big valve 350 heads when he was in Automotive Engineering School in Seattle).

Funny as I just had the "which Dave Johnson" discussion with someone else last week.

@Brian Albrecht had posted this in the thread @cjp69 linked to and said he was pretty sure it was a racecar. Not sure which one of these or if some are the same car repainted: Buick Race Cars.jpg

FWIW, Dave Johnson doesn't have anything to do with the car listed on BAT. Dave's GSX clone has been at my garage before, definitely a different animal (beast) than this one.

Non gsx 10-10 4 speed stage should be put back to original IMO.

If you put it back to original then it would be an automatic not a four-speed

It’s not a bad looking car I don’t think. But I agree with you 100%, but by the Sloan it’s not a 4 speed car it’s says “B-C” which is auto with console if I’m not mistaken.

In this case that's what makes it unique - A super low option automatic is way rarer than a 4-sp stripper.

Go through all the trouble to "un-clone"
it, for a what? It will never have the original #'s matching drivetrain. Yall saying it's worth more as a 10-10 stage car with any old 455 and a turbo 400?

Agreed ! Too nice a car to undo. What’s done is done . We all wish it wasn’t “done” , but we can’t change that ! Nice car nonetheless.

What is a white stage auto with non match drivetrain worth in the same condition? I say $30- $40k probably. What is this one worth with the 4 speed and clone stuff? I say comparable money, maybe even a little more. So why would you spend the money and go end up in a worse position? Oh that's right, not doing it for the money, doing it for the love and rarity of the car, lol! Leave it "cloned" and enjoy it. Oh and be ready for the first question out of everyone's mouth to be "Is it real?" Ask me how I know........

I would drive it just like it is but would not pay that price for it.

Man, some of these posts make me scratch my head.

On one hand, we complain when the Buicks get dwarfed by the other brands at Mecum & B.J. (in terms of price) and on the other hand, people are tire kicking so bad their shoes have dents in them.

Bottom line is: you've got an original, documented 10/10 '70 Stage 1 that's turn key and ready to roll. If I had the space and cash, this thread wouldn't exist. Try building one for $45K.

Not sure how closely anyone follows the auctions but LS6 replicas are fetching over $100K after beginning life as a 6 cylinder Malibu.

This isn't a show car, it's a driver that has obvious flaws and imperfections. I've seen it at a few local shows & cruise nights and it presents well. Plus it's a big block 4-speed car.

If some of you guys saw my car up close, you'd probably drop. It's one giant black imperfection.

If I saw your car in person, the only thing that would drop is my jaw...your car is badass!

Maybe the problem is we have not been able to see it Bret. That makes a big difference when trying to value a car. I might have bought it had I seen it. Non the less it was not bringing the money on ebay that the seller was trying to say it was.

Agree w/you on values & I'm not buying it so other than pondering/daydreaming on here doesn't much matter what I'd want to do with it, lol. I'm certainly not in it for the money and to me, as someone who likes oddball/low option cars it'd be worth it to potentially reduce the value for the love & rarity (& avoid the question:)). I've done (doing) dumber things:).

    Agreed.

That's why I flew to Baltimore in early 2017 to look at and drive mine.

There's really no excuse for buying anything sight unseen these days. Whether it means getting on a plane or having someone who's opinion you trust give it a good once over.

If someone is really interested in a car, one of those two things needs to happen.

I looked at this car back in October. Car in my estimate was solid, but it was showing the years of wear. There were also a bunch of things that were just not done right. At 15k I would be a buyer. When I looked at it he was in the 40k range. I also was concerned that the car has had a lot of owners , but none kept the car. Why? If your serious about the car go look at it and make your own judgement.
