Ok so with manifold hooked up at idle what are you see with timing? Initial plus the advance? For an example. What is an acceptable range for idle?
You'll see your initial + the canister*, usually 14-20*, + whatever mechanical advance you have in from the added idle RPM. The canister * will increase your idle speed noticeably. You should turn that down. I wouldn't worry about the actual reading at idle. I have locked out timing on my engine, so it idles at 35*.
Ryan, I think I saw you driving on Saturday by the car show in the valley? Essentials One has AV gas at the pump. Either off Int. Airport in Anchorage or PW highway in Wasilla. Mix in a couple gallons of that with 90 OR try the VP Octanium you can pick up at NAPA. Use a AAA card to discount to a more reasonable price. Use about 1/2 the bottle. See if the pinging goes away. If so dial the total timing back just slightly.
Yes i was driving around a bit on Saturday and saw the show going on after we went to Lowes. I did see essential had av gas. May give it a shot but just wanted to get others input. Ryan
Found a small crack on passenger side manifold. My motor is a 68’ 430. Im not worried about period correct year replacement manifold. Will 455 manifold work without major modifications to exhaust?
http://buickperformanceclub.com/Exhcompare.htm you should be fine. I have a set of headers that need a slight repair on one of the tubes if you are interested in going that route too.
