Hurst 4-Speed Shifter I called him a year ago about a set up and he wanted $1000.00 for a complete set up! . Does he sell Buick Shifter handles only? AL.
Al, I sent him the same EXACT thing you posted in post #16 a couple years ago and he rebuilt mine for $175.00. The turn around was QUICK. He also offers rechroming for the handles for an extra fee. What were you inquiring about that was $1000.00??
Hurst 4-Speed Shifter I think it was a complete 1970 NOS set up complete. I have a comp plus Hurst set up in my GS now and plan to make mine 100% correct, AL.
nope....no handles........ :ball: I emailed him the other day :ball: here's what he says...... Hi, that OEM chrome stick is very, very hard to find, in the past 20 years of buying & selling old Hurst parts & have only had 2 of those. I am out of stock of that stick at this time. I always look for the rare stuff, but I have no idea if &/or when I will ever find another one. Thanks, Pete well......looks like another.. do-with-out....part
4-Speed Hurst Shifter It looks like the correct Buick shifters are impossable to find. I have seen a few Cutlass shifters popping up from time to time. This is the way I'm going on mine, AL.
Well, now I don't feel so bad about the $$$$$$$$$ I spent on it. Of the two he has had, I guess I am the one that bought the last one last fall. Stick, rebuilt shifter and linkage. Sweet.
Put a drop of oil in the butt entrance to the shifter assembly. Then use a feeler gauge to release the stick from the assembly and verify whether it reads 5335 on the butt. You cannot see the number while it is mounted.
Im not sure what year they stopped putting 4-4-2 on the handle, but my 72 W car just had an 'H". And I know for a fact it was the original shifter
A few years Hurst made a handle with the same contours as the original shifter except it was 2" shorter. However it was the bolt on replacement handle for the replacement shifters.
David, that is the one that is in my car now but not for long. I have run across one that is closer to what belongs in there, AL.
I had a long chat with Dave Kleiner yesterday and he said things are moving along well with Hurst shift handle. He indicated the original handles were crudly made thus there is varying tolerances among handles. Beyond that he has everything a 4 speed Buick needs and should have handle done this summer
My original 70 GS 350 that was a early production 70, built in Dec of 69 had the H on the handle, not the Hurst, and yes that is a Cutless shifter handle as well.
So are you saying you 70 GS 350 came from the factory with the one with the letter "H" on it instead of having it spelled out? My good friend Scott Miller set me up with this one and I couldn't be more pleased it looks like a peice of art work, AL.
