hey David, i will run by the shop tomorrow night(I would go right now, but we are in the middle of a freezing rain storm)and measure for you, and I will wait till saturday and see what Mike wants to do as far as who wants to run with this project. Thanks David, for getting things to this point.:3gears:
400+ views but only 4 total votes cast? This guy is not a big shop, and I have a feeling he'll make these if he can, regardless of how many might be ordered initially.
I would like to be on it too. My only problem is I have no job and I am going to school to try and change that. That unfortunately is sucking a lot of money for books. It is interesting all these 350 Buick people out here cry for parts but then when it come down to buying the part everyone says "I will but not if the cost is high." Try buying headers for a new Camaro, that cost is up to a thousand dollars. I would be in on the Pistons from Mike at A&P and the Herche rods and the Aluminum heads and the SP Intake but this not finding a job in the profession I have done for 35 years just sucks. When I go back to school in a week I have to take Muscoskeletal Anatomy and there are 6 books involved for one class. When I get done with this school I will be ready to to put the killer motor in. Going back to school at 54 years old is a real butt kicker. Especially when you are an expert printing pressman. I have been doing this for so long I can run a letterpress.
i'll step up no problem for coordinating if you guys want. I dont have a free set of pullies..still on my engine are you still planning to just send your set in or? not sure if the waterpump pulley differs in thickness from year to year as we technically have a shortbody wp, medbody and longbody wp..something to keep in mind

>>Good point Mike. I will have to measure mine to see what I have.
yea not really sure its going to matter much though..i had 3 different year engines in mine 72..70/71, and latest engine is a 73
Hey Mike, I will send in my pulleys for this project if thats ok with everyone. I will also be willing to work with you on this.:3gears:
We have four interested parties right now, I think it would be nice to see at least six more people confirm, so we are not going to waste this machineists time. I also think that once the four of us get these on and post pics the orders will just pour in for them.
>>Good point Mike. I will have to measure mine to see what I have.
I never knew this, I have worn out many water pumps on the buick 350s and was never asked about water pump length when I was ordering my pumps ever, and no, I did not order the same part # everytime, or order by the same year every time. I always went in and asked for a pump for a buick 350.....thats all I told them, it was a long time ago when parts people were very up on the products, but still.
Ok, so the last thing I need is the diameter of the largest pulley, the crank I'd assume. He needs to know this before anything else happens, to confirm he can even do these on his equipment. If it's a go on his end once he gets that info, I'll pass the shop's contact info on to Mike to run with. Chris, did you get a chance to measure?
>>Just took out my spare pullies and the diameter of the crank pulley is just under 6 3/4 inches. Both the water pump pulley on my car and my spare 2 3/8 inches long - I don't know if they are short, medium, or long.
Here is a pic of the crank - the tape measure was starting to curl up as I held it in one hand making it look more like 6 5/8 inches. I have the 350 crank, waterpump, and power steering pulleys all sitting in a box - could ship them to the guy but I don't have the alternator pulley which I think some guys wanted.
not sure how accurate this measurement is, as its hard to try and meaure the diamter when its on the engine and installed in the car lol but seems to be like 6.5 inches
Well, V8Sky measured 6 3/4 with his off the car. I wonder if we might have slightly different diameters among years/models/factory configurations.
In remember this, even though it was about 6 years ago. The crank pulley from the later 350 was exactly the same diameter as the 300 crank pulley. I also used the 73 power steering pump and brackets on my 300 if that helps. I do not recall if the PS pulleys were the same diameter though, but it's doubtful that Buick made wholesale changes there.
like i said most likely a poor measurment by me i'll double check tmrw only thing that should differ from year to year and possibly model is the thickness of the waterpump pulley and replied to both pms
