Re: aluminum pulleys http://www.gn1performance.com/products.asp?cat=153 gn serp setup is probbly the only way
Re: aluminum pulleys Chris, I know someone in the Twin Cities who'd likely be willing to make you a set if you sent him oem's to go by. He currently makes a lot of pulleys for the 3800 community. No idea what he'd charge, but his 3800 pieces are nice and reasonable. I currently have a SC pulley from him on my Riv. If you want, I'll PM you his contact info.
Re: aluminum pulleys i'd also like his info maybe we can start a group buy, to maybe help keep cost low?
Re: aluminum pulleys I'll email him first to see if he's interested. A group buy would likely need agreement on stock vs underdrive.
Re: aluminum pulleys Wouldn't matter to me as far as stock/underdrive, I just want to ditch the drab steel pulleys
Re: aluminum pulleys Are you volunteering to head up a group buy effort? I've emailed him and will let you know if he's interested. If so, will forward his info.
Re: aluminum pulleys if it'll help I will. Ifm an underdrive set isnt really going to cost any real difference in price might as well do it..but either or should help free power abnd drag due to simply being lighter then the stock pullies! I Did the group buys on the MLS gaskets and pretty much on the lights, just john i think took over and did more direct approach which sped things up a bit initialy.
Re: aluminum pulleys if its a go from the guy in twin city, I think it'd be easier and better to go stock pulley...no underdrive pulley I think the real question is should we make the aluminum crank pulley non a/c 2 groove or 3 groove a/c?
Re: aluminum pulleys Ok guys, he's interested. If there is agreement on doing them in stock diameter, then you need to decide a/c vs non-air design. A/C style would cover both requirements though? You'd just have an un-used groove? Or are your cars non-air? Not a lot of interest posted here so far, to call it a "group buy". Anyway, at this point, he'd need someone to volunteer a set of stock pulleys in whatever configuration was agreed upon, before he could toss out a quote. I would think you guys are looking at complete sets rather than individual pulleys? This MAY give you a rough idea... his aluminum serpentine SC pulley for the 3800 engines runs $50 machined finish, and $55 polished. That's about a 4" pulley and smaller. Here's a pic of his polished SC 3800 pulley:
Re: aluminum pulleys I would be interested, pending pricing, would want A/C. Thought about going surp but just replace my h2o pump so would be a waste of money. Tim
I think if we do ac pulleys they should work for everyone, I wouldn't care if I have an empty groove.
Hey David, what kind of time line would he need? I can offer a set of ac pulleys if I will have them back, or if the aluminum ones would be ready by mid may or so.
my car is currently a/c pulley but deleted a/c so if everyone is in agreeance with a/c verion so be it. as for the underdrive pulliues I thgink we should just do stock, so we dont have to worry about going down half a seize or w/e in belts or the possibily of the overdrive pully not charging the battery r some other weird thing.. so how about everyone just repost if theyre interested and clarify what you want so we may get a better idea on what needs to be done
I just bought a set of stock pulleys for my 1972 350 that are sitting in a box in my garage. The pulleys I have are the Crank balancer pulley, Water pump pulley and the power steering pulley for an a/c 350 Buick. Here is the link with pics of the crank and water pump pulleys I bought: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=241102 I would be willing to lend them to make the aluminum pulleys. As I mentioned, depending on the price I would be interested in the pulleys I have listed above in the aluminum version.
Quick question - does using aluminum pulleys make any difference over the stock steel pulleys other than appearance?
