Hello everyone. I haven't posted in a while. I sold the 1972 GS tribute convertible I had about a year ago. But I am back. I just bought this 1972 GS convertible (Sloan documented) and trailered it home from SE Ohio. I wonder if anyone here may have background on the car??

Unlike the previous car that was completely restored when I bought it, this restoration is on me. Will be a journey since much of the car is in unmarked, untagged boxes.

Overall its a pretty solid car, with much of the body work already complete. Nonetheless, I will be lifting the body off the frame and starting from scratch to ensure its done to my satisfaction.

Max Damage I'm working on it!

Congrats! That looks like a ton of work. Does the numbers 350 still live under the hood?

I love the '72s and that looks and sounds like a great project. Close-up photos of those window stickers would be great if you ever have a chance to post them.

    Good luck with it!

Neat car/project. Hopefully the bodywork on yours was done satisfactorily. My '71 GS convertible also came to me apart & the supposedly "done" bodywork & frame weren't anywhere close to what I'd consider useable but for whatever reason(s) I really like the car (options, colors, back story, etc.) so...

    Keep us posted!

I've started sorting through the boxes of parts. I already have a few that I am not sure where they go. Any ideas?

Also, the air cleaner came with matched foam inserts for the ram air. Never seen these before. Thoughts?

I'm pretty certain the interior parts aren't for your car although when I got mine I'd never had a convertible & die (embarrassingly) throw away a part that was for the car.

Bracket looks like the power steering to engine. Not sure if for your car. I'd have to compare it to the correct one.

I've seen the repro foams come with the insert. I guess they include to keep the shape.

Good site to check out is @TimR's www.fixjet.ca. he has a very in depth chronicle of resurrecting his '72 GS convertible.

Been a few weeks. Found more pin holes in the trunk pan than I deem acceptable. Decided to do a full trunk pan replace.

Also, since I will be pulling the interior out of the donor car, I needed to weld in bucket seat brackets and floor console brackets. Out with with the bench and column shift, in with the buckets, console and floor shifter. I fabricated my own front bracket. The bracket needs to be 3/4inch off the floor in case anyone else wants to fab their own.

Next up will be back to the engine. Block is back from the machine shop. Pistons and Cam just arrived from TA.

Good on you for saving another one.

Not many in Sunburst Yellow with a black top.

Engine rebuild was moving along nicely until I realized I needed a new front cover. Oil chamber looks like it was used to pump sand for a few years. Have one on order with TA (along with an intake), but they are on backorder until at least early 2024. Bummer, was planning to have the engine/trans installed before putting the body back onto the frame. Oh well, engine is on hold now. Moving on to body work.

If all goes as planned, I am a few wks out from needing to make a color decision. Car was originally sunburst yellow with a black top. I am retaining the black top (also black interior), but am now questioning myself in going back to the original sunburst yellow. I just don't see that many in sunburst yellow. Not sure if that is because they were rare, or just aren't a desirable color now in terms of resale and market size. I am seriously considering fire engine red, same as the last GS I owned. Although my last GS had a white top & interior.

Keep the car original and paint it Sunburst yellow, color change will only devalue the car.

I would go with sunburst yellow no question for me.
