I could not find a thread so if it’s not in the proper spot I apologize. My 350 gs has not had a/c for decades, it is a a/c car. The pictures below show how the compressor sits on the cradle bolted in - a picture of the front bottom of the compressor with the bracket - the space between the front of the compressor and the bracket -the front of the compressor which lines up with the back pulley. The alternator has a single pulley which I know needs to be changed to a double as that belt will be on the outside with the compressor pulley being on the inside . My question is what looks out of place? Pictures welcome as they are worth a thousand words.
I believe there are additional brackets that go on the compressor. I will see if I can find any pictures for you.
Thank you fir the pictures. I have both the 3 and 5 hole brackets on the compressor. The second picture is the 3 hole bracket attached to the bottom of the compressor; I wonder if it should be bolted to the outside of the compressor. I believe you can see the other bracket in the third picture…….
1970 350. I appears the brackets are bolted to the compressor properly per your pictures. The issue I am having per my pictures 1 and 3 is the gap between the brackets as shown. I am confused as the compressor pulley lines up with the other pulleys on the motor....
Those compressors are pretty much the same from the early 60’s through the 80’s, aren’t they? It almost looks like he has the wrong upper bracket. There were several variations of those.
I have a complete '70 Skylark w/AC here. I can get a couple pics. Are you sure you have the correct brackets? 70 & '71-2 are different.
I think Dano & Adam are correct. The A-6 was a standardized component. You probably just need the proper top bracket.
does your upper bracket have the notch like the one pictured with all the other brackets. If so that's the later 71 72 version.
Is your lower bracket steel or aluminium? Generally, the lower steel bracket goes with the top bracket with the notch (later years). Various models (Riv, etc) vary, too! Dano's pictures should help. Edit - Looking closer you have the aluminium lower so you need the upper bracket like in post #14.
Thanks guys. I believe it is the incorrect bracket up top . It looks like the ones pictured which are '71,'72. Any harm in running 1/2 spacers on the front and back?; Im just trying to get the thing operative...
Taking your feedback I went back to look- The compressor mountings provide 8” The bracket off the rear of the compressor to the top bracket ( the one bolted to the intake) is 8.5” As it is the backer is to large as it will rub against the compressor pulley… do I have the wrong bracket? The pulley lines up with the inside pulley of the water pump and the middle pulley on the crank( the inside is used for the power steering pump).
