Change is a part of life and no matter what will always happen. BUT not all change is good and for the better. And just to be clear I'm speaking solely on the emblem not the fact that GM is going more green and towards the future of electric cars, that I'm all for because I'll be long dead before they completely ban or restrict gas powered cars and if I'm dead then why would I really care anyways.
From a marketing strategy perspective, you are correct. My company went to all caps which depicts a more strong presence. In this day of culture clash where many long standing logos are being changed, its refreshing to some of us to see longstanding ones remain unchanged. However, time marches on.....no doubt logos in a cursive font will be put aside as it's been pretty much eliminated from modern day handwriting teaching.
It looks like a minecraft, or lego face when I look at it. A lower case logo makes me think they don't think much of themselves. They may as well go ahead and make it pink.
I would venture a guess and say 90% of buyers will never notice the difference, 9% might if they remember reading about or hearing it in the news, and the 1% which are car enthusiasts spread out over multiple brands they would never buy really don’t matter in the grand scheme
I wonder what the origional Coke cola tasted like. I wonder if going to lower case letters will be the new trend. At least cocacola clasic is still in cursive. But someday people wont buy it because they cant read the can. Thats when everything will be in emojis. GM gm FORD ford usa USA. USA
Not the Original flavor but in the 80's I remember this when it came to Coke..... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Coke New Coke was the unofficial name for the reformulation of Coca-Cola introduced in April 1985 by the Coca-Cola Company. It was renamed Coke II in 1992,[1] and was discontinued in July 2002. By 1985, Coca-Cola had been losing market share to diet soft drinks and non-cola beverages for many years. Blind taste tests indicated that consumers seemed to prefer the sweeter taste of rival Pepsi-Cola, and so the Coca-Cola recipe was reformulated. However, the American public's reaction to the change was negative, and "New Coke" was considered a major failure. The company reintroduced the original Coke formula within three months, rebranded "Coca-Cola Classic", resulting in a significant sales boost; this led to speculation that the New Coke formula had been a marketing ploy to stimulate sales of the original Coca-Cola, which the company has denied.[2] The story of New Coke remains influential as a cautionary tale against tampering with a well-established and successful brand.
electric cars are going to be like asbestos in the future and people everywhere will be like but they told us this was better.
The logo fits with the direction the video shows perfectly. GM has had an image problem for years and it's not even the cars but that they still had the corporate mentality that they did when they were invincible. That mentality and way of running business is long gone. Gone are the days of building a car and telling people this is what you will buy, today people want to see the progress, see the development, see the technology, and see the strides to respect our resources and start turning the corner toward a cleaner planet. The gradient color was a good touch, it's still bold but not conceded. Good for them for trying to stay fresh and good for them for pissing off the curmudgeons.
widespread adoption of electric cars is a "speculative" future. The current electric grid infrastructure is antiquated. Another scenario is synthetic fuels. Anyone remember Jimmy Carter? Look up Sapphire Energy, they went the same way as Solyndra. The IC engine is likely to remain, for a long time, with greater refinements, far longer than any of the so called "experts" claim. There is no current viable substitute for the stored energy in petroleum, that can be replicated otherwise. The energy to recharge an electric vehicle has to be generated somehow. There is no free lunch.
I have never heard the experts make a prediction that electric cars are going to take over gas/diesel vehicles anytime soon, even if every new car in the US was electric starting now it would take 25 years to replace all the regular service vehicles on our highways. Now worldwide the change may be quicker as countries overseas as a whole tend to be more green and starting to make strives in that direction. United States: California will ban the sale of new gasoline-powered passenger cars and trucks starting in 2035, Governor Gavin Newsom said in September. Canada: The Canadian province of Quebec said this week it would ban the sale of new gasoline-powered passenger cars from 2035. European Union: EU environment ministers struck a deal on Oct 23 to make the bloc's 2050 net zero emissions target legally binding, but left a decision on a 2030 emissions-cutting target for leaders to discuss in December. Germany: German cities started to introduce bans on older diesel vehicles that emit higher amounts of pollutants than from late 2018. Norway: Norway, which relies heavily on oil and gas revenues, aims to become the world's first country to end the sale of fossil fuel-powered cars, setting a 2025 deadline. Fully electric vehicles now make up about 60% of monthly sales in Norway. China: In 2017 China begun studying when to ban the production and sale of cars using traditional fuels but did not specify when it might be introduced. Sales of new energy vehicles (NEV) will make up 50% of overall new car sales in China, the world's biggest auto market, by 2035, an industry official said last month. India: Last year, India's central think-tank asked scooter and motorbike manufacturers to draw up a plan to switch to electric vehicles. The think-tank also recommended that only electric models of scooters and motorbikes with engine capacity of more than 150cc must be sold from 2025, sources told Reuters.
Hold up, was that 1975 emblem also the hood ornament? - I think EV are kind of a fad right now, and probably will be for some time. I think Hydrogen Cell, or any energy cell, engines are the real future. The main problem with EV is how slow they are to recharge. That makes them unsuitable for service use, heavy duty use, military, the list goes on. You can't just swap the batteries out. Until they can reduce charging time to a few minutes for a FULL charge they are handicapped.
The Hawk being shown as the emblem for Buick for those years is deceptive, while they did use it on some of the cars and in advertising, the trishield was still used and was still the official emblem of Buick those years.
