And they all lived happily ever after as vegetables, while the meat eaters took care of them... ws

Ok, ok Jim. You got me. I picked up a box of veggie burgers yesterday at the market. I read the ingredient. Soy Mush or something like that. Soy is full of female like hormones you know. It also has been linked to early onset dementia. I’ll be trying one soon though. NOT. I will be having a nice BLT for lunch though with my home grown tomatoes and Lots if Bacon. Did I say extra Bacon?

For the last two days lunch has been a salad. Dinner last night was chicken, tonight will be fish. I concede that I had sausage and two eggs for breakfast this AM, but the bride and I go out for breakfast most Sunday mornings. I don't eat this way for any particular health reason, it's just what I like to eat. Red meat is just a rare (pun intended) treat.

It seems that every few years, some revised study is released which either partially, or fully debunks a previous study. Remember when eggs were terrible for you? Now they're touted as one of the "good" foods.

After reading that latest American Heart Association study, it didn't reveal that much new information to me. I've long known that plant based foods were generally better for us over the long run. What's most troubling is how much processing goes into creating some of these latest "plant based" foods. If you can't read or understand the content label, you probably shouldn't be eating it. Also, what the hell is "Red #5, or Yellow #12" anyway?

I remember getting into trouble as a kid for raiding peoples gardens. :D:D Who knew we were on the nutritional cutting edge at the time? Pull those carrots out, wipe off as much dirt as you could, and chow down baby! My grandmother always had a kickass garden for just herself. She never minded her grandkids helping themselves to some of her produce. I'm certain she planted extra for that purpose.

Getting back to the original subject, nobody gets out of here alive anyway, so why not enjoy some of those foods you love.

Always look who funds the studies. Brought to you from the soy industry. Pay no attention to your shrinking nuts.

In the past we have seen the same initial denials of the validity of scientific health studies. The health effects of exposure to tobacco smoke comes to mind. Many seem oblivious to the irreversible consequences if these studies prove correct.

This issue is closely related to your body mass index ("BMI"). For calculation of health insurance premiums, the applications generally ask whether you smoke. If you smoke, you pay more. Applications are already starting to ask for your BMI or weight. If you are say 10% over where you should be, you pay more. Mutual of Omaha, for example, asks for this information in order to calculate your health insurance premium. The same is true for life insurance premiums.

Insurance carriers are surcharging insureds that engage in conduct that they know, or reasonably should know, adversely affects their health and longevity. The moral of the story is that insurance carriers have accepted the scientific studies while many in the general population are still in catch up mode.

Hopefully I have 10 good years left as after 70 if we are driving still it’s a plus. Maybe a few good years after that if I don’t drive through any convenience store windows. I’m going to eat what I want. Plenty of meat and vegetables just like our ancestors did. Keep your weight down and exercise and the world will turn.

Also Jim, one word of caution here. I’m not a doctor although I play one on TV.

Providing information is a more appropriate description of the exchanges made.

The life expectancy chart Jim posted the link to is based on date of birth. It doesn't really take into account all the factors that made differences, like better health care, etc.

My Grandparents were born between 1890-1910 and all lived beyond 86 years with the smoker of the bunch living the longest, to age 93. I eat like they did and will bet on good genetics.

Providing info and belittling others is two different things. You told me I needed to read more, yet the info you provided had nothing to do with the subject, you told Dave he has to re-think, yet the info you provided has nothing to do with the subject either. Remember, you're just another guy like us, albeit one that is under the false impression that he is somehow superior to others.

BYoung—No longevity on average has improved greatly over time. There is no honest debate about that.
