Just thought of something cool too...

If what I think happened with this car is what happened... it's the very first Super Wildcat ever produced.

I have a lot more high resolution pictures if anyone wants to see more close-up shots, including close ups of the pedals. I can't post links because I'm a newbie here but I would be glad to send any picture I have to anybody.

    :idea2:
You can go to www dot uberwebservices dot com / wildcat / images / pedals.jpg to see the pedals.

    Topcat Got TORQUE?

Nice car but too many things don't seem to add up. The non-correct inflation sticker on the glove box door says a lot to me as i've owned/parted at least 10 Wildcat GS's.........good luck with the sale :TU:

    Wildbill,
I totally respect your opinion. And with the evidence you have to go on I think it's the only conclusion you can reasonably make.

I just have one question that I would love to get an answer for regardless of what this car is...

How do I have a 1966 Wildcat, with a 425ci engine, with matching numbers, that is stamped MX276?

There is no record that anyone can find of Buick producing any 425's with an MX stamping, yet there it is.

That is the one mystery I would love to solve!

Is it possible that someone re-stamped it years ago, assuming that it should be MX given that coding used in previous years, not knowing it was actually supposed to be MZ?

I know I looked at a car not made in Flint that was a numbers matching 70 stage 1 car. Turned out a previous owner had re-stamped the block with an "SS" to try and make it a real stage 1.

Those look like 64 dual quad carb numbers with 63 production dates? What are the last 3 numbers on the intake?

Those are carb numbers, I'm looking for the intake number between the carbs, it should end in either 306 or 316? Also a picture of the kickdown switch on the rear carb drivers side would be helpful.

OK, you'll have to bear with me, I'm not very knowlegable on this stuff.

I don't have ready access to the vehicle, it's about 20 miles from my house. I will try to get out there today or tomorrow and take some pictures.

If anyone has any specific pictures they would like to see, let me know and I'll take them.

    Topcat Got TORQUE?

Rear carb has the roller wheel and has wrong #'s.....down load the pic and zoom in.......the kick-down switch is the 64 "plunger" type. The steering coloum is Riviera.....the radio knobs are 65's.....the stereo box is in the wrong place.....the picture of the dash conviently cuts off the GS from the dash emblem(hard to pull in the junkyard so it's the rarest emblem of all) if it's there.........and if any of you want to make a MX....MZ engine......i have the correct 60's letter punches :Brow:

I'm not trying to beat you up on this car but with no build sheet and all these things that are wrong i am going to call it a clone......a pretty good one but i'd bet a $1000.00 bill that i'm right.

Did you say he bought it new?

Again.....good luck with the sale...beautiful car :pp

    Peace WildBill

He said he bought it from the insurance guy after it was damaged by hail.

What emblem on the dash are you talking about, there is a Wildcat GS on the dash, I'd be glad to send another picture.

And I don't feel beat up. I got sucked into this vortex and I'm just trying to find out the truth so I appreciate your knowledge and comments!

    Topcat Got TORQUE?

    Picture of the dash emblem.
Close up picture of the driver's side of the carbs....air cleaner off.
    Picture of the glovebox sticker.
Pull the kick-down wire connector off the transmission and take a picture of the lugs on the trans......should be 2 for a switch pitch......i suspect there will be only one.
Picture of the throttle arm and throttle rod piviot point showing idle switch and
a picture of the kick-down switch showing wires connected and bracket that holds it to motor.

Get those and i'll give you my FINAL thoughts on this car.

If you can't post pics here.....e-mail them to me or some one else and we can get them up.

Again.....i am not trying to beat this car up.....just wanting help you accurately present it for sale.

    Peace WildBill

    Topcat Got TORQUE?

    10-4 :TU:

We are just trying to help.....get the insurance mans name or the name of the man he got it from........i sold a 4 "clone kits" over the years and two of them did not have the glove box door with them........this might be one of them.....back to Haunt us on Halloween

    Peace WildBill

p.s.....if you could read the code off the rear axle(bottom pass side) and also make sure there's a posi tag on it(plus,do a little burn out...make sure)......i kinda suspect it may not be......but the car looks to be highly optioned so it may have a posi but not the GS ratio.........

Will do! As I said, I don't feel beat up. I am very grateful for your time, input and expertise. I do not want to represent this car as anything it is not.

Just FYI - I have changed the listing on this car to list only the raw, observable facts as I know them. I have removed the reserve and I'll just let people bid on it based on what we know, not what is speculated.

I would imagine it is worth at least what it is listed for but again, I don't know. This is the price the owner wanted for the vehicle based on what he's got into it.

Thank you all very much for your help.

I will try and get pictures as requested.

I see the Hardy boys and their pal Chet are hot on the sleuth trail to solve "The mystery of the unknown Wildcat".

Hilarious! I've learned more about Wildcat GS cars from this thread.
Love the gold color on the car and wish it still had the fawn interior as Tom pointed out.

Good luck with the sale, we really do not see a lot of 66 Wildcat convertibles in this condition come up for sale.

I can tell you that this is a beautiful car and it runs and rides awesome! You could eat off the engine and the entire thing is so clean it could be sitting on a showroom floor!

This has been great, I've become pretty knowlegable about the 66 Wildcat in general even though I am so not a gear-head. I do love cars though. I personally drive a 2009 Mazda RX-8 which is a pretty kickin' little sports car.
    :3gears:

Prolly won't get me any cred around here though.

Just FYI... Talked to Roger (the owner) and he's going to get pics of all of this and bring them to me. Should have tonight or tomorrow.

I also told him to take pictures of the engine stampings so everyone could take a look at those as well.

Should be interesting. I just want to find out what this car truly is. I'm telling you though, this guy is swearing up and down this thing is original.

Couple new bits of info... He did move the stereo box because he said it was stupid where it was before, it would hit the passengers in the shins he says.

He has pictures of the car before it was painted and before some of the current restoration was done to it, he is bringing those and I will scan and post.

And finally, I've hit the ten post limit so I can post my own photos now. ;-)

OK guys, before I waste any more of your time, I got some photos of the engine and the first thing I wanted to see was the engine casting showing the code. I expected to see the X look like it was tampered with but to my surprise, the M looks like it was scratched in to me.

I have other images that Wildbill had asked for but I wanted to get everyone's take on this first.

Here is the serial number on the engine which look good to me. There is some dirt smudges on the first 6 but if you zoom in on it, it looks like a nice clean 6.
