The best place to store parts

If you have a lot of parts, the best storage is on a car!
Parts cars can expand into unbelievable space sucking things.
Artie, if anyone asks, its your "Rolling Parts Warehouse"

The problem isn't buying parts for the parts car. It is selling the parts off of the parts car that you replace with the parts that you bought for it. Confusing isn't it? I have found myself staring at extra parts I didn't know I already had, and then I buy another '66 GS to put them on, thus needing even more parts. It solves the "extra parts" problem, but becomes an "extra cars" problem. All of these problems are, of course, easily treated with money, which then becomes a "money problem." Dan:Smarty:

    Like a snowball rolling downhill.....

Ha!...extra cars....that's another issue.....I've bought cars just to have an 'extra'....So I now have an 'extra' GS in case something happens my 'primary' GS.:eek2:
Then there's the 'GS for every occasion' issue :Smarty: .....The 'Street/strip GS', the 'Restored original GS', the 'Weekend driver GS', The 'Daily Driver GS'...... now there's the money problem, the space problem, and the time problem.:Dou:

Dan, do you think we were part of a scientific experiment in Bowling Green 1984???..... we each had one GS.....now look at us! Were we abducted by aliens or something????

I'm so glad I joined this website. Now I know I'm not the only person crazy enough to hoard all these less than perfect parts.

I'm not crazy, it's the rest of the world!:Brow:

Alan, I get warm and fuzzy every time I see that pic.

I have a pile of boxes in the corner of the garage that keeps growing as well. Someday soon I'll have to actually put them on the car.

    436'd Skylark Sweet Fancy Moses!!!!!

I got it bad, I'm 19, and by the time i graduated highschool, I had 1 running daily driver, ( 85T/A w/430) and 2 parts T/As. The plot thickens, since then I have ditched the all 3, but still have enough body and interier for 2, and enough driveline parts for one badd as go kart. 3 motorcycles, all of which are junk, but 2 could run with an afternoon, a three wheeler. Oh, and the Buick. I can barely afford that, but I somehow think I can buy another T/A, or possible a nice 67 Skylark convert in town. Then there is the old ball and chain. Everytime I look at her I picture the M22 I couldn't afford because of her :af: :af: my parents hate my guts!!! All this and I still have to buy an ass load of school bucks. I should sue Ebay or something. Isn't there a law in Vegas where the casino owneres have to interupt the gamblers after 20 hours or something?? I need something like that. :3gears:

If they interupted us before we are finally satisfied that we have enough parts, our cars would never get finished.

Ever notice that you end up buying 2 or 3 of something that is less than perfect because you can't find one.......but then after it's all painted and on the car you find a perfect one?

Happens to me all the time.:af:

It's getting worse....I'm having a friend give me an estimate on the body/paint this weekend. Plus I think I actually have enough stuff to switch between the GS and the lark to have a complete car with the other stuff I've bought. And in the process I keep finding stuff I bought for the '72s that I've had. If I find more 455 stuff I may do a motor swap.....

Hey Artie!...I'll help!....I just happen to be looking for a job...

Yeah, I know that's not what you meant, but it's worth a try....It actually sounds like my dream job...getting paid to work on old Buicks!... sure beats being an engineer....:TU:

I think it has already consumed my whole life! Every weekend that the track is open, I am there from 9AM-9PM on Saturdays, and the rest of the week is tweaking the cars interrupted by work and sleep. I wasn't this bad with modding the Vette, the calibre of everyone on this board has really swayed me more into the Buick camp. You guys make it soooooo easy for me, the Vette forums are like a constant battleground. Everyone argues about 1.7 RWHP, even people who don't have the car! I love a good intellectual debate about the cars, but have grown to back away from a battle of wits with an unarmed individual. I haven't even driven the Vette since I got the GS, and the GS still needs a trans(slipping). I guess I'll be seeing a lot more of you guys at the track this year:grin:

Hey Walt, my department(Automation) got eliminated from the last place I was working as an engineer....I fell back on my ASE certifications and have been fixing cars since November. I'm sure glad that I kept that stuff current! I have a lot more fun working on the old stuff though, I wish that working on/tweaking old Buicks could pay the bills for me!

WHEW!!!! I feel like I can come out of the closet now. For a while I just started stashing the extra parts as they came in. I keep them in well-hidden places. I knew there was a real problem when I realized I was keeping spare lug nuts in my bathroom drawer. Thank God I can accept myself as OK now.

I could quit anytime I wanted to.

  16. msc66

    msc66 still no vacuum

One way to control it is to have absolutely nowhere to put the stuff. Right now I'm renting a storage unit to keep the parts for my Skylark while I'm restoring it in my carport. I hate throwing money away renting but its still cheeper than paying someone else to do the work.

I really wish I had more space though. Last year I could've bought a '67 Special with a '66 front clip and a perfect grille for $100.00 but I had nowhere to put it and the guy wouldn't part it out. This year I paid that much for the grille itself! Oh well, things will get better, things will get better, things will get better......

Hey Alan, you need to keep those grills separated! They must be mating/reproducing.......

   - too bad they can't proudce some NOS 71's as offspring

the sad fact is I paid decent scratch for every one of those.....and only one is what I would consider ready to bolt on sweet looking car.

Yup Alan you can say that again. I sold 3 71 GS grilles to a guy in PA in the 80s for the sum of like $200! Worth about $2000 a piece now I'd say!!!And I was happy having made $75. Must be the ex-wife's fault! :)

My "business" was GS Auto Specialties ..............anyone out there remember buying from me.?
