I just realized that I am now buying parts to complete the "parts car". I don't have the time or resources to rebuild the parts car into a driver but I'm doing it anyway. Somebody please punch me in the head for doing this to myself
I've found myself buying parts for no apparent reason at all. I don't have anywhere to put them, so you've got me beat there! I jsut buy them either because it's a "good deal" or I might just need one of those in the future:grin:
wishi had the money to buy random parts.. let alone parts i need ... disc brake setup radiator HEI conversion with MSD controller new seat covers new door panels new carpet bumpers rechromed few paint/body problems fixed up battery tray fixed those are the "must haves" what i still WANT to do is the following head porting and port matching with the intake new cam new torque converter new wheels then.. i think i'd finally be close to being complete ya know.. where the rest is just kinda gravy
Now I feel better. I've been doing the same thing for a long time now. Do you know I have 3 complete dashes with all the guages? Enough extra window glass for 2 more Rivs? An extra hood that is taking up my back porch? Two trannies and 2 extra doors in the basement? 5 extra wheels under the roof of my carport? 6 extra tailites? Enough spare trim for about 4 Rivs? 6 bumpers? The upstairs of my garage is full of parts I probably will never use but just might someday. Sell some of it? NEVER! I guess it's because when I needed something I could have picked up but didn't - I always kick myself when I can't find one and usually have to pay a million dollars for it later. Yes, it's definitely a sickness.:ball:
I also keep buying nice small parts for my car, even if I already have spares. If the price and condition are right, it's fair game. I have gotten better lately though, and actually have sold a couple spare spare parts that I really didn't need to buy in the first place. It really is an addiction.
I think I need to cancel my ebay account....I just totalled up what I've spent in the past 3 months and I could have bought another car
I don't know if you guys know Carmen, but he is 1/2 hour away from me. I guess I'm really lucky to have a source of parts like that so close by. That is dangerously close!:eek2:
Spare Parts A man can't have enough spare parts . . . especially if it's for a Riviera ! and momma sez: "What are yah gonna use that for ?" - they just don't understand ! ou:
Wow, just sitting here within arms reach I have my spare dash bezel, some hood trim, rocker trim, all my emblems, a couple mirrors, 2 carbs etc etc etc. Thats not counting the basement, the garage........ I'm glad my wife is tolerant.
I've even bought parts for cars that I don't even own yet but plan on in the future. 49 Roadmaster Sedanette I got parts for it but don't have the car. Now where did I put them?
Buy Buy Buy Buying extra parts are great even if I don't need them, and yes they are better than stocks right now,:Comp: and I love when I find someone in the neighbor hood that can sell me a truck load that wants to buy a Chevy.
I started grabbing parts back in '76 when I got my '66. I just wish I wouldn'h have thrown out those old rocker arms and God only knows what else. I got my first replacement set from the dealer! How was I to know back then. Then there's the parts I gave away to my freinds, including a wood wheel and set of vacuum door locks. Boy, was I stupid!:ball:
I wouldn't worry about it. It's always nice to buy parts and have them on hand. If you don't use them, you'll eventually find someone who will. Parts are an investment-I couldn't agree more.
