I would agree with James here completely.

That was a market test, in my opinion. Not enough information, pics, or bidder/seller communication to be viewed as a serious attempt to sell.

I would also agree with Mark that the GS market now has a good population of "flippers", looking to do nothing but buy, fluff, and resell at a higher price, and we have to be careful more than ever these days to inspect cars before purchase. Especially these big dollar ones.

I don't beleive that 75K per car is out of line here, if you think it is, then get a basket case GSX,/ STG 1 ragtop and start writing checks to have it professionally restored. Considering what I have seen some buckets of Rust GSX's sell for on ebay, and also being in the buz and knowing what it takes to transport and do a car really nice, it's unlikely that unless your sitting on the mother load of NOS parts, that you could do it for that money.

I think the biggest point to take away from this is that when you get into these kind of deals, then the value of each car will vary, depending on that particular piece. Just because one 10/10 GSX STG 1 4 speed car sells for big money, does not at all mean they are all worth that. It does mean that the "base price" of that particular model has been elevated, and a precident has been set, but each and every car has led a different life, and has been restored/repaired/altered differently. And the quality, correctness, and completeness of that work has to factor into the price for an individual vehicle.

In respect to this auction, there is no doubt that any serious buyer would either hop a plane personally, or contact a professional for a complete on site inspection/valuation, before any money changed hands.

At least I would like to think that us GS guys are that smart.
