So i took the intake back off on wednesday. My plan is to put it back on tomorrow and see if that fixes the vacuum, and see if that fixes the white smoke....and if it doesnt...im about out of ideas.

But what should i make sure i do when it comes to sealing the intake. rtv around the water ports on both sides of the valley pan along with one the corners of the rubber end seals. Then some brush tack or copper spray on just the top of the valley pan to the intake. Does that sound good?? Thanks guys

Hey Brian, I just followed the directions that come with the gasket/valley pan. Mine came with the sealant too, I think it was a felpro one from Autozone. I put the rubber seals over the block on each end with more RTV on the corners.

clean, clean, then clean it all again. every mating surface has to be spotless.

Clean the rails where the rubber pieces go as well, then smear a light goating of RTV on the sides and top where the rubbers cover, put them on and let that cure for 24 hours. Should help prevent them from walking around when you seat and tighten the intake.

You have been using the proper torking sequence, correct ?

Well ive had it all sealed up for a few days now, just been waiting on my new fuel line to come in. I put it in yesterday, and went to start it and nothin...It was crankin, but upon inspection, the carb wasnt getting any gas. So i put some gas in the top of the carb and it started, just until that little bit of gas was gone, then is went back off. I am thinking that my carb is bad....something to do with that float having to be pushed down and the flooding of that upper gasket. So im thinkin rebuild or going with a holley....just another problem

BTW it looks like i aint drivin it for the rest of high school (like 2 weeks) and my mom told me that my dad hates having a car that sits there and its going to end up being like my neighbors charger that has been under a tarp in his garage forever. She told me that he is also thinkin about selling it and getting me some kinda of little daily driver car....:ball:

Tell her if she buys you that reliable little rice driver that you will need a bunch of new computer games and a new blackberry as well because you won't be spending anymore of your time learning all of this valuable knowledge about motors and you will be spending all of your time on the computer and on the phone like 90 percent of all other kids do these days. :Comp:  :Smarty:

Brain, you need to find an old man at a carb shop that can take 5 minutes and inspect your needle valve and float assembly. This should be an quick and easy fix. This carb wasn't right from the get go it sounds like.

it sounds like you pump maybe bad. not sure if you changed it out. you could disconnect the line from the carb and remove the pump from the engine but leave it connected. you can manually pump the pump from the lever and see if it is drawing fuel.

also check the soft lines as if your drawing air instead of fuel again you won't get fuel in the carb. There is a soft line under the drivers door about 4" long. there is obviously the soft line at the tank.

An easy test would be to loosen up the fuel line at the carb and crank the motor over for a bit and if it leaks then your pump is good.

I didnt change the fuel pump, so i doubt it could be that. But i will check after school.
Im thinkin about pickin me up a edelbrock performer series 750 cfm carb for like 270. But ill look around for this "old man" first :TU:

I know I may be stating the obvious but did you pull the inlet apart from the main body and make sure there was nothing plugging it up, or atleast check the filter?

Are you not getting any gas into the primarys at all?

  12. 72lark350

    72lark350 GOING FAST WITH CLASS

No i didnt check. But i just got home, so time to go check stuff out. No gas into the primaries at all. :puzzled:

Also- is the driveway your car is parked on at any kind of a slope and how much fuel is in your tank?

  14. 72lark350

    72lark350 GOING FAST WITH CLASS

There is a small slope, back towards the rear. But it has a little over 1/4 tank so it should be good

If all else fails throw a couple more gallons in there just to be sure.

Last week my car died while I was on my lunch break and the gauge read over an 1/8th so I didn't think fuel level would be the issue, but it was. Four gallons later I was back in business.

Well i just disconneted the fuel line from the carb and cranked the motor. No gas anywhere, but i thought there had to be some kinda vacuum connection to the carb to suck the gas from the pump....:Do No:

No, you have a mechanical fuel pump, it pumps when the motor turns over

    72lark350 GOING FAST WITH CLASS

So im thinkin the pump might be bad? Even though i didnt change it and it worked before i took the intake off for the third time....

Although i might have bent the bottom when i was putting in that new fuel line from PartsPlaceInc. It didnt fit perfectly so i have to do some manuevering and had to bend the line down a bit. Ill have to go check for an air leak around the bottom of the pump.

Maybe i should just go pick up another while it is still day out. Autozone should have in stock right?

Also, where is my fuel filter supposed to be???:Do No:
Cuz when i took off my fuel line to the carb, then the main fuel inlet, there is no filter in there. Is there supposed to be??

You can see the inlet on the left side of the picture screwing in to the main body, and the filter insid the inlet (and the spring)
