What are some cars that we haven't seen at the PSMCDR ? Either we've seen very few or none of ???? It's always cool to see something new and "fresh" out there. Some cars that come to my mind: * '57 Chevy 283/270 dual quad * 406 Ford Tri-Power * Boss 429 car * 440 GTS Dart * Mercury Comet * '59 348 Tri Power Chevy What else would be cool to see, or cool to see more of ?? :Smarty:
'68 Hurst/Olds. Even if there's been one or two, that's not enough. How about an AMX -- have there been any? I also wouldn't mind seeing more barges: Toronados, Rivieras, Furys, Impalas. With all that mass and highway gears, their MPH may not be impressive. But all that mass gives them a traction advantage over our coupes. Might make for some fun races.
How about a fuel injected 283 '58-'60 full size Chev? :Smarty: Or '57-'58 fuel injected Bonneville? :Smarty:
Turbocharged Corvair Spyder??????? Little tweek here, another there, voila! 12 second car! (hard to weld in a Competition Plus shifter there, though.) Sunbeam Tiger? Falcon Sprint? OHC Pontiac Sprint? 4 speed 65 or 66 Olds Starfire? (Look out Stefina, here's another Boblo boat) 57 Olds stick shift J-2? Great pic, John.............
66 W30 Ram Air Brainbeau Olds here runs C stock in the 10 s http://nationalbrakeproducts.com/maplegrove03.jpg
Olds Jetfire with the boost cranked up (runn with the Studie's) Agree with Dave, '57 Olds with a J-2 setup '70 Toro w-34 Agree on the AMX's
There was a Mercury 406 tri-power there a couple of years ago. I think it was a 1963. Had full wheel covers and waaaaaaay slower than Brian's. Does the dual quad 57 Corvette count that is owned by one of the Richard's brothers??? To answer "blackgold"...yes, there have been two AMX's running there. A 1969 ( low 13's -orange ) and a 1971 401 that I ~think~ was either dark, dark green of black. Also, there was a boattail Riviera there last year, a 455 Wildcat convertible ( all 5000+ pounds of it ) and a 67 Fury III with a 383 4bbl. What about those Catalina 2+2 and Bonnevilles that show up every year?? 4 speeds to boot! Dave H. -The Sunbeam Tiger would not be eligible as it had to be built here in the US. Also, any of the 6 cylinder cars ( Corvair-ugh- and OHC Pontiacs ) would not be befitting the "musclecar" image along with the 4 doors or station wagons. My wish list: I'd love to see a Falcon Caliente or Sprint show up. How about one of the Fairlane 390 GT/GTA from 66-67??? ( one of my favs ) Rambler Rogue with a 4 speed?? ( put that next to the Studebakers and the guy with the S/C Rambler from last year. ) 1974 G.T.O. Turbo 215 V8 Olds. '55 Chevy 210 coupe- 265 w/ Powerpack 1974 Corvette 350 ( to see how slow they REALLY are ) 1968/69 Cougar Eliminator ( there was a 429 Cougar there back in 2001 ) 65-66 Mustang 289 "Hi-Po" 65-66 Barracuda 273 Formula S Wow. I just read my list and noticed it was mainly small blocks! Where are these guys??? Oh yeah. I know! They're at all the "Cruise Nights" on tuesdays at the local bowling alley, that when approached about joining a venue such as the PSMCDR I get these usual responses: "Can't. My ( 1 of 325,000 built ) 1966 Chevelle SS 396/325 is too rare." "Can't. I'm afraid it'll blow up the engine." "Can't. I have to change the rear gear from a 2.73 so I can race it." "Can't. My wife won't let me race it." "Can't. When I shift into 4th gear it scares me." "Can't. I don't have slicks for my car." "Can't. I don't own a helmet." Unfortunately, these are all TRUE responses that I have encountered when passing out PSMCDR flyers to prospective PURE STOCK eligible car owners.
Total agreement on the cruise stuff. What's the matter with a 66-69 Corvair Spyder? A little maneuver with the boost and those things fly! Where does it say they have to be V8's? Like your other additions to the group. I think one of Tom Miller's friends brought a 67 Toro to the race a coupla years ago and was told no. o No:
Rare Muscle I would like to see a 1967 Ford Fairlane 427. I would think they would be legal??(Non light-weight) They Are legal in NHRA stock,Robert Pond has held the A-stock record for quite a while.
Um......EVERYTHING! For starters, it has a pancake 6 cylinder. Yummm.......pancakes.........syrup and butter..........yum! Oh! Where was I.......I think it states in the rules it must "factory-installed equipment that promotes a high-performance image". And a Corvair is more a jaunty, sporty-type car. It ain't no MUSCLECAR! Unless you drop in one of those midengine V8 kits! Same thing about 4 doors and wagons......not in the image of a MUSCLECAR! I have a buddy in Washington D.C. who owns a 1970 Chevy Nomad Wagon with a 396 ( 402 ) 4 speed. To me, that is a COOL car! We had emailed Dan and Bob about the possibility of entering this at the PSMCDR. No dice. Not a MUSCLECAR. If they won't allow a 396 4 speed, they surely won't allow a SIX CYLINDER Corvair. Heck, I'm fortunate they allow small blocks! If you follow the accepted criteria of a MUSCLECAR, it usually involves a BIG BLOCK. "No Small Blocks" would eliminate a good size chunk of the PSMCDR field!!!
waaaht UM, I don't know ... Corvair spyder was everything a Muscle car was about. It was the factories hopped up top performer for the body style. I would of liked to see how far the car would of evolved if some A$$ named NADER hadn't harpooned the cars future!! Look at the YENKO stingers. ( ROB paging ROB ) A buddy of mine has a 69 spyder and that thing RIPES!!! :3gears: Remember a VETTE wasn't a Muscle car just a year or two ago!! Or that was the debate at least. My how times change........ o No:
here's a few here's some i'd like to see-70-71 duster/demon,61 or 62 dodge 330,67 GTX,yenko deuce,67-70 sbc camero or nova,57 black widow, any L-79's. If kenny finds the parts he needs there will be a new engine carb combo there that we've never seen run before.
The 66 -69 used a Muncie 4 speed coupled with a GMC truck differential and humongous drive axles. Total agreement with Frank on the early ones. GM actually didn't defend the car as they already had a gold mine running called a Chevvy II/Nova that was much easier and cheaper to build in the same market segment. Styling was every bit as good as the first Mustangs and better than most at that time. They're light, no traction problems, reasonable aerodynamics, bulletproof drivetrains, excellent exhaust system, get out the hammer, bend the boost bracket, and let her rip. Yenko Stingers were ultra cool and would love to have one. Crown conversion V8's were the ultimate. My old roommate from UM put a 350/350 from his rusted out Camaro in his 67 Monza and that thing was a rocket ship. Once he put the steering and suspension fixes in place, I swear it would stay up with an A.C. Cobra, handle like a Porsche, and blow the doors off any Corvette that I've ever seen in any type of racing . Sure ran away from my Ramrod like I was sitting still. Built most of it in the GM Proving Grounds garage on weekends where he was a Chev Powertrain development engineer. Nice perk to be able to bring your own car in on the weekends and use the facilities. Now about all you can do is play solitaire on the company computers......if you don't get caught.
For sure. The NSCA NSS/A "Fountain of Youth" car comes to mind. Love to see a fullthrottle power shift while the front wheels are still up. Paul Adams still is an amazing driver....how old now, 75? Haven't seen an L79 66/67 Nova Super Sport lately either. Someone said there was one a few years ago.
Yenko Stinger Ok. So Yenko built the Corvair Stinger. It may have been "fast", but I think that was geared more for Don Yenko's road racing ties. NOT with a MUSCLECAR in mind. Just by putting Yenko on the flanks, doth not a musclecar make, yea verily. This is further evidenced by the Yenko Vega. Did that make the Vega a musclecar??? I like the style of the '67 Corvair. Don't get me wrong. But it ain't no musclecar. I'm still not sure about the Corvette being classified as a musclecar ( are you reading this Donny?? ). Yes, there are some stellar examples that have shown at the PSMCDR and the F.A.S.T. events. But I remember my 64 Roadster 327/350 4 speed. Great for going around corners, but anytime I exhibited any aggressive driving behavior in a straight line, that thing would shed driveline parts faster than I could afford to replace them. As for the 1966/67 Nova L-79.....my buddy had a 1967 that he had to sell due to business bankruptcy a couple years ago. That thing regularly whipped my GTS without breathing hard. I wish he had kept track of the owners since he sold. I think it has changed hands 3 times since then. Keep your eye out for it in Michigan. White with black interior. Silver accents on the seats and door panels. 4 speed with power windows (?!?!?). Wish he still had it. Here's another to add to the ~wish~ list: 1971 AMC Hornet S/C with a 360.
any ??? What am I, invisible here  One ran 13.11's back in 1998, good nough to make the top ten on the speed chart
