Class of '79... I was a teen in the 70's so that decade influenced me the most. ....Spyder bikes with hi rise handlebars and banana seats. Beatles, Led Zep, Creedence, The Who, Hendrix. omg! Bought my first '66 GS in 1976 for $50 when I was 15. Had to do an engine rebuild, added a 12 bolt 4.11 rear ($100), and did a firewall-forward resto, got it on the road by 1980 and had a blast with it till it got wrecked in '82. Bought another 66 GS for $200 and did it up, it's the one in my avitar. Loved the music of the 70's, especially the prog rock.... Rush, Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, as well as the heavier Led Zep and Sabbath. Early 80's brought Boston, Foreigner, Journey, Tom Petty, Van Halen, Def Leppard! Didn't get into the hair bands too much... I was a holdout and listened to the older stuff. The 80's music got weird but there were some good ones...The Cars, Dire Straits....and then Rush's Moving Pictures and Floyd's The Wall hit it out of the park. Skipped the new stuff until the good 90's music happened. Nirvana, Queensryche, STP. Nowadays I took a step back with an intense appreciation for the Blues, but still love classic rock. In '86 I bought my '79 turbo Regal and did it up.... that car was fun as hell. '96 saw the purchases of (3) more '66's . By '98 I got in to a couple of Saab 900 turbos.... great drivers and great MPG. 2010 I bought an '01 Jeep Cherokee XJ and built a stroker 4.6. 2020 I reserved then ordered a new Bronco....and it'll likely be 2023 by the time I get the damn thing! But today was my first day of retirement....drove my '66 Special to do some errands, listened to classic rock, and it was perfect. Back to the 70's feels good!
Wow! Where did you go to High School?!? Kinda like a Beverly Hills 90210 thingy but in the 70's to 80's..
Battle ground WA, Hillbilly town USA The Hemi was excellent original condition and took a little while to fetch $8,500. 67 rs camaro convertible never did sell for his asking of $3,500. I hear he still has it to this day. 70 Roadrunner guy still has the 383 and about 17 others including a hemi cuda convertible, he has done pretty well for himself.
Hillbilly town USA That's why all the Chevy's Roadrunner guy sure did ok didn't he!! Wow taking a while to get $8500 for a HEMI that's a doozie..
Graduated High School in '83 and had a great time in the 80's. Mostly listened to Led Zeppelin, Van Hallen, ZZ Top, Who, etc though. Had a beater first car and then moved on to a better condition 73 Monte. The Buick beater is in the firat photo with the Monte in the background, that is around 1982. The second photo is from a local park that would get packed with 100's of cars and kids that just had a party every weekend (I did not take the photo, but it is the park we went to). Funny that with all of the young testosterone, hot chicks and underage drinking there were almost no fights. Everyone just wanted to have a good time. Except for the time a frisbee hit my friends beautiful 67 Chevelle SS 396 (red with black top and guts), it got pretty ugly that day. I grew up in a small town so during the week I would go into town and park in front of the local store and after about an hour there would be 5-10 more of us just hanging out shooting the ****. No cell phones to set up anything, it just happened. My first CD that I ever owned was David and David, Boomtown lol, it was given to me by a friend that worked at a record store, they got 100 copies as a promotion. I had no way to play it in my in-dash cassette player until I bought a Sonly Discman with the cassette adapter. I still have a case with all my Columbia house and BMG cassettes. I still may owe them money
Like I said in my post , " the kids of today don't know what they missed out on !" Think I'm gonna watch Dazed and Confused tonight !!!
We ALL still owe either BMG or Columbia House! (A guy in my dorm worked in the mail room; he sent in multiple ‘one penny’ cards with fake names and kept the CDs that came). I had a tape deck in my ‘80 Regal in high school and bought a Discman for it-cost me $200 in ‘87 or so. First two CDs I bought were Paranoid and The Yes Album. Already had 200 plus cassettes…still do, along with that many CDs and a fair amount of vinyl. Patrick
Mine had a funky brick battery (rechargeable) and it failed in the mid ‘90s. I still used it indoors with the big stereo and AC adapter but something else failed and I bought a disc changer. I had gotten in the habit of recording from CD to cassette for the cars. Patrick
Looks like I'll be the first to post that I identify the most with the 90s. Graduated in the late 90s, my late teens/early 20s were that of the Fast and Furious cars. I do appreciate all the classic music you guys had back in the 60s/70s/80s, one would classify that as Vintage now. Only joking, I prefer 80s music of to much of that in the 90s and I only wish I could have been smart enough to pick up a W-30 or Stage 1 back in the 90s. The coolest cars def came out of the late 60s/early 70s, now I have to shell out a fortune for what you all paid very little for back them.
Except for a few bands, the music in the 90’s definitely had a different sound, seemed like it went down hill
