way too deep man. It supply n demand, if they are willing to take the risk more power to them, free market capitalism makes it all possible . It's precisely when the govnt gets it's greedy hands in everything nobody has money to buy anything, just ask Jim Weis how much tax, fees, permits, inventory tax, hazard material ,license he has to pay. And payrol, did u no that whatever tax comes out of your paycheck your boss has to match it. In CA my boss had to pay inventory tax on toilet paper because he had too much. Who decided what was too much ? He got the **** at Costco, that's what your supposed to do at costco. Permits tripled in price under gov brown and the other sleeper cell in the white house. Welder permit went from 150 every three yr to 1500 every yr. so now he keeps it in his box truck,
what we really need is Hillary to be prez. Then everybody will get there fair share, we'll have income equality. I'm sure then everyone will be lining up to buy fenders from the guy who took a risk and failed, maby he will be able to hold on to some and sell when the demand is there , maby not , it was his choice , he ain't living on the street livin off food stamps now. Without capitolism there would not be a Buick. We would all have the same little car. , probably a yugo that al gore would make u buy. So maby he should invest in yugo fenders.

nice I see you can't even type the word for anal excrement any more

So this is an old thread but I gotta say. When your looking into a set of quarters to be installed thats 1400 plus shipping then around 5K to install and prime if your doing this to a Gsx or Stage 1 convertible you might not be going underwater but on a Skylark or GS 350/455 your going to have way more into it than you could ever sell it for. Most younger guys even if they like Buicks will buy a new Muscle car A guy cab find a used Camaro, Challenger or Mustang for less than the paint jobs on a Buick. Just the way it is

Wow! Does it really cost 5k to have two 1/4 panels replaced? I had no idea...

Not if you have the skills to do it yourself. Around here shops charge 100 to 120 per hour.

I looked for the "best" shop and he regularly gets 30K or more for paint on a good car then there is the plus body work for a car needing rust repair. I could not use them.

Yes, and that is the key to weak restoration sheet metal sales.

While some will do it for the challenge and the journey, to fully restore a Stage 1 HT, they full well know that when they are done, they are going to have 80-125K in a 65-70K car..

Most folks, certainly the non Buick die hard collector crowd, will not be buying any quarter panels, they simply won't go there.. they are a weak investment, to say the least. I know several local collectors that consider Buicks the "drivers" of the classic muscle cars.. because weak value and excellent interiors, and build quality, not to mention power, make them fun to drive, even 45 years later.

I am happy it's this way, since the mechanical side of things has always been the backbone of my business. This is also why we can drive and enjoy these cars, they are not 1/4 million dollar museum pieces, because the collectors, by in large, are just not interested.

Personally, I would much rather drive them, then look at them behind velvet ropes.

The resto parts business will never be as strong in the Buick parts, as the big three, and Pontiac..

Jay Leno once said that the car hobby is a place where you can buy a car for $3,000, put $30,000 into it, and when it is done it will be worth $13,000. He's right.

Actually u no man I put that down yrs ago, that was my after work wind down mode. A lot of times I just let it flo, you should hear some of the 7 am meetings. They can be truly baffling. I attribute it to equal and opposite reaction theory. So that would show my mind is really full of intellect.
