Just want to repeat what someone said about fuel pressure at mid and full throttle. BUY A GAUGE and find out if you have pressure as you accelerate. Do you have a clean fuel supply? Clogged fuel pickup sock in the tank?

A few things, most have been covered by previous posts:

You need a 160 thermostat. I accidentally pulled out the wire for my electric fan control before a pass at the track, temp was 215 at the top of the track and I ran 4 tenths slower. My normal temp is 170.

Check to make sure your kickdown connected to the accelerator pedal is functioning and adjusted properly. You will shift low at WOT if it isn't. If all is well, it's time for governor mods.

Check your throttle cable to make sure you get full throttle. Very common to find out something is off in the adjustment and you don't get the throttle open all the way.

While the carb is undersized, it may not be tuned correctly as well. I run a 750 Holley vac secondary, with 70/74 jets. Install the lightest secondary spring and start from there. If it bogs badly, go 1 step heavier on the spring until the bog is gone. Make sure the choke is adjusted properly as well.

Make sure your spark plug heat range and gap is correct.

That cam will be probably happier straight up and not 6 degrees advanced. The Comp 260H in my car is straight up.

Post back after everything has been verified.

I had these same issues with my 350. Fuel was at 7lbs at idle. Put the gauge out through the hood resting against the windshield so I cold see it, and went for a ride. At 4,000 RPM's I was at 0lbs. Installed a Carter elec. pump. My 350 likes the 800 Q-Jet set up to be all in as soon as I hit it with the comp 268H, B&M 2,500 converter and 3.42 gears. I shift @ 5,600 RPM's. The cam was installed @ 0 and my total is 34 degrees with a modified (welded advance) points dist.
Sean is correct on the fuel, that and improper timing was my initial problem and sounds like you are experiencing the same issue.

If you want to launch that thing like a "Bat out of Hell" put in the Lunati 67003 and use a 3500 stall with that transbrake then you would be able to push it to 3 grand and launch it from there and you will almost pull the wheels. A little nitrous will guarantee that.

I agree with Mark. Bolt a set of turbo's on it and you will lay waist to more than half of the 455's out there. Can you say low 12's at least. And what's 2k when you have 5k.

Just throwing ideas out here for you but, is the cam degree'd correctly? That could make a huge impact on power. Have you done any compresion or leakdown testing on the cylinders, maybe you have some leaks there? Or this could lead you to cam issues?

Replying to a couple of posts.

I have 3.73's in the rear.

I rebuilt my transmission last august with a B&M transkit and I built it to the drag specs.I replaced hard parts too new thrust washers planetary gears hardened sprag race and such .I bought the transbrake also but I didnt put it on at the time because we were makeing a drag car at my junior college and was gonna use it on that but that whole thing kinda fizzled out

Before I rebuilt the rear end last month I put on one of the mr gasket fuel pump said its good to 500hp.I think its at 10 psi?? i cant remeber right now.

The aluminum block!!! I wish I still have to pay some bills so I couldnt just blow all 5grand on my car

Turbo's! Maybe maybe I dont want to but then again I do want to lol.I am kinda intimidated buy doing that will I have to take off my headers and isn't my compression to high?Or would I just have to boost like 8??Also would i need to by forged rods and pistons then?? My engine only has 1678 miles on it since I rebuilt in august.

I did decide on the lunati camafter all it should be here saturday.I am taking my heads off and gonna take them to a machine shop to see if they can do any more porting all I did myself was some gasket matching and cleaned the combustion chambers really well

My friend has a nitrous kit he said hell let me have I will probably be getting that off him if I do ill ask on what jets to use and such from nick a or fox's den .

Well thats it for now guys updates soon and pictures of my rebuild on my quadrajet soon also Take care guys! Russ NO MORE 16second 1/4 times for me!!!:3gears: :3gears:

Another real simple item to check is system voltage. You should be getting 13.8 to 14.2 volts overall.

I also do not think the overheating problem has ever really been addressed. Is it doing ok now? Running lean will cause overheating, and the stall problem you have had. Just because the fuel pump is new does not mean that you have the correct fuel pressure to the carb. The fuel pump can be great but you could be sucking through a bad straw (fuel lines) the vent could be collapsed or the sock could be clogged. These are old cars and the little things can really screw something up.

Just giving you some simple things to check before going to the hard stuff.

    Good Luck

If you went the turbo rout, you could just buy the whole kit from Mark Burton. He is running a special right now on ebay for $1900 His kits come with turbo's and exhaust manifolds and waste gates. They come with every thing you would need except for fuel upgrades($700). We could help you figure that part out. and yes you would be getting rid of the headers. as far as your compression goes you might need a meth/water injector kit($300), I would get one regardless.

Sailbrd thanks for all the advice.I got good voltage I have an optima redtop battery and a 180 amp summit alternator.I ordered a new fuel tank and new lines from opgi on wednesday they should be here sometime today.

Yea the whole turbo thing I dont think im ready for yet lol, seems like to much.Right now I think after I tune my car with all of the new parts I think some nitrous iis in my future.

Did you ever check what artie recommeded? This happened to my 72 GS-350. The car felt like a slug after I put it together. I found out the carb was only opening 1/2 way. Once I fixed the linkage, it felt like I added another 50 horse.
