For those of you that give a crap, the 455 should be dropped into the Camaro this Saturday. I'm planning on getting up early and finishing pulling the wiring harness out, that contains everything I won't need. Then I'll drop the motor in, hopefully without any problems. If I run into problems, I probably won't finish putting it in, because I have to work tomorrow afternoon. I appreciate all the help guys and I'm sure I'll need more. Thanks.

P.S. I should be ordering a kit this weekend to put the TH400 into the Camaro. Provided by YearOne.

Excellent Matt. I hope everything goes well. Just visualize the steps before you start to avoid any obstacles that you were unprepared for. Just get it mounted then worry about the wiring. I have a feeling that once it's in, you'll pull it again to do a hot build up on it. Just remember, Buicks make ungodly amounts of torque. Especially when built up. I know somewhere I have an article of a mid 90's Trans Am with a 455 that is painted black and looks like a stock 350 especially the valve covers. Total street sleeper. If I can find it, I'll post it. Good luck. Keep us informed.:TU:

    Matt,

It's the June 2000 Hot Rod(Latin for "Chevy Worshippers"). The guy's name was Mike Pesarchick of Lititz, PA. The car was an '87 Trans Am. The 455 is a Stage 1 10.0:1 motor with a Lunati .523/518, 230/245 @.050. It runs 1156 @119 and gets 21 mpg. The key is heads and EXHAUST MANIFOLDS by Greg Gessler. Headers won't fit. You can try Hot Rod for back issue copies of this issue. I don't know if I can get the article to post.

Here's part of the article.....at first glance, doesn't the valve covers look Chevy stock?

Don't look like he did any choppin' either. Hopefully I won't have to. I'm not going to have any hood clearance for the carb., Good thing I don't have one on it right now, or the hood probably wouldn't close when I get it in tomorrow. I'm just going to set it down in there, and make sure it'll fit without chopping.

427camaro, what year camaro is that going into? I have a 83 that I'm going to drop a 430 I have in an older riv parts car once I get some more cash. Yearone has hardware to install a th400? The only place I've seen parts for doing this is spohn and it runs near $400. What's the price of the one from yearone? Don't forget the pics! ;)

Is it yearone part number: T400K, description: TH-400 conversion kit, and $144? :jd: I just might be able to afford this installation sooner than I thought...that's a much better option than spohn's $355 for torque arm and crossmember, though I guess if you wanted a performance torque arm then it would be the way to go. So does this kit come w/ everything you'd need to mount in the th-400 provided you have the engine mounted already? So pretty must all I'd need to get going is TA Performance's $100 engine mounts and that kit from yearone. And then of course get a driveshaft made for it...this is so cool...
I was thinking I'd get the tran install stuff 1st so I know where the engine will hit the crossmember and I can drill the engine mount holes in the right place... :Brow:

69RivieraGS, yes, that is the kit I'm talking about. I haven't yet got it, but I'm going to give it a shot. I'll let you know if it works well. The year model is an 88 Camaro.

I've already got motor mounts for it, they came bolted onto the motor. As for the mounts that go onto the frame, I've measured and I don't believe that I'm going to need new ones. They are going to have to be grinded at a little bit though on the sides.

Here about 9:30 I'll be starting on it guys, gotta wait till the bank opens so I can put my check in it and order that kit.

    Guys,
Mike wrote an article in the March/April 97 GSExtra entitled "Two Much Time On My hands". In it he details how he fit the Buick 455 into his 87 Trans-Am. I don't have a scanner or I would post it. I'm sure it is better than the Hot Rod article, more detailed.

Well good luck, you're probably right in the middle of it now. Have you talked to anyone from yearone to get details about that kit? I'm thinking about ordering these parts so I could get started on it when spring break rolls around for me(in another week).

OK. I've set the motor down in the Camaro finally. (It's hard to do it with no help, my friend wasn't home). I believe I'm going to have to move my frame mounts forward a little bit, which isn't a problem, I don't think. There's already 2 pre-drilled holes of the 3 for each side. That's as far as I have gotten. I'm going to work on it more probably Wednesday, because I'm taking a college day, then going home and gonna work on it a bit. Then hopefully it will be mounted in.

I haven't talked to the YearOne people, if I knew how to get ahold of them, I would. Didn't see no number or email for technicle assistance.

Thanks Guys! Hopefully more good news on Wednesday.:beer
