    Thanks again everyone!!

Right now Rod is running a Turbo-400 that is modified to the max. In the past he was having problems burning up sprags. Jim at JPT fixed that problem and beefed up the rest of it. It worked great all last season. Now in this new car we're burning up clutches. Rod's going to give the trans man a call this week and see if they can figure something out.

John- I'll pass the Rossler Trans info on to Rod. Thanks for the info.

Congrats on your work and your et. It sounds like you begining to get it squared away.
Some things to consider . I dont know if you are using a stock case for your T400 but it might chase some of those problems away if you went to an aftermarket case . I have a friend who made the change to an aftermarket case and he hasnt had a problem since.Just remeber ALL T400 cases are at least 20 years old by now.

Also what is your first gear ratio?Whats your 60 ft at that et ? just wondering.

If you do decide to go to a manual -- dont do the lenco. Although very strong they do eat more hp than a geared transmission. In addition the are heavy. Figure on at least a good 60 70 lbs over your T400 with a titanium bell.More with a steel bell.
Liberty and gforce transmissions are lighter and quicker and easier to change ratios. If you do decide to go either route let me know , I will help in anyway I can.I know the Matt at Lenco well (I am WD with them ) and Liberty. I have been running clutch cars for 20+ years now.
Again keep up the good work.

Congrats on the new fastest V8 Buick record! Time to can that slushbox and step up to a Liberty, I saw a clutch pedal in the car, it is half way there! The money you would have to spend to get an auto to work would probably be as much as a 5 speed conversion.

    Thanks Bill

Yeah we kind of added up what he's got in the trans right now and he could of bought a Lenco or Liberty and been done with it. We're thinking a lot of the problem is that this car hooks like crazy, where the Hawk spun. It's a thought. He's got to get something different, just not sure if he's going to do it now or milk it until winter. Our money tree out back isn't producing as much with this drought going on..

Good for you!! Glad to see you're in the mid 7's. I can't wait to see you run at Salem. Maybe do a little street racing, show them ricers who's boss around here.

Didn't Ken Duttweiler go 6.80's @ 204 mph with a turbo V-6 in an Olds? Don't know if it was a Chevy or Buick V-6 though :Do No: How about the Garth Hill & Williams altered that ran NHRA Comp for a while, Wasn't that the fastest Buick powered car?

There is a big love hate relationship with traction and racers.
You need good traction for good times.
But good traction tends to break parts.
Until you find the right combo of parts or you break your wallet.

Kenny ran a small cube Chevy V-8 in the Olds, so that doesn't apply. I don't know the altered you refer to, but I'm not going to give credit to an altered or a dragster as being a Buick. Or even as a car, for that matter. MHO.

The web site I found the info on, the Buick Gran National Racing Association, say's Ken was running a V-6, not a V-8. Anyone personally know Ken?

Some folks don't like to compare altereds with "door cars", and that's OK, but really, how much difference is there with an altered and a tube frame "door car" with fiberglass panels and a steel roof? I was just going by the "fastest Buick", period, no caveats or other limitations. Fastest door car, fastest stock frame, fastest back half car, fastest iron head motor car etc. Long as it's Buick powered though, it's all good!

OK, can't confirm it at this point, but based on an article on draglist.com, the turbo altered car of Garth Hill & Williams's had a single turbo 257 cubic inch Buick V-6 in a 23-T AA/AT. The car ran 7.105 at 198.28 back in the eighties when the index was much softer.

But on the flipside, you might have Ken Duttweiler tuning Bill's car. Not that he needs it though he is right up there as one of the smartest turbo V6 guys. Congrats on the 7.50's and hopefully there is still more to come.

    Doug,
Ken did have a TWIN TURBO V6 in the Olds prior to the chevy, it was a strange engine, had BBC main caps and used an Oldsmobile front cover,I have only seen one other block like it. He did run a 6.9? at Bristol against Conley for the match race against his BBC Camaro with that engine. To my knowledge, nobody has run faster with a single turbo than I have, especially in a Regal.
My car weighs 2570# with me in it, it has Carbon fiber and fiberglass everything, it is a full chromoly tube chassis meeting 25.1E specs. We could probably struggle and spend a fortune to get another 50-75# out of it, I would rather just turn up the boost!
An alterred probably weighs in the 1500-1700# range for comparison.

I think you might be right on Kenny, but I'm not sure, I don't know much about the V6 guys. I did a quick search and found that Duttweilers fastest Turbo Buick V-6 powered quarter mile pass ever (6.89 seconds at 204.53 MPH), at the "Buicks at Bristol" event in October 1999. It didn't mention if it was in a Buick body or not. Rods broke the V8 record, and now were going for the fastest Buick V8 or V6.

How much Difference.... About a 1000 lbs difference in weight, the body of an altered is about 3 ft wide, it's all fiberglass. You put Rod or Bill's motor in an altered and it will cream that record. An altered is not a car. My opinion if it's going to take the title for being the fastest V8 or V6 Buick it needs to be in a door car,, preferably a Buick. Or you need to break it down by class, fastest altered, rail, door car.ect. But like you said if its a fast Buick motor its all good.

Bill- are you going to make it to Salem? It would be a damn good match race,,, specs of your car are dead on with Rod's. Not going to get any better of a match race V6 to V8 than that.
