True the "big money" part. Speed costs money. How fa$t do you wanna go? As far as BBCs in Mustangs (and in Joe's Dominator Dart), the guys use what works. The Mustang platform just plain works. And the BBC is still the best bang for the buck. Windsor based Fords also have a huge aftermarket following but are cubic inch limited compared to the BBC. V.E.D. offers a bolt-on "Hemi" head for them that works. I would like to see big inch Buicks running the 1/8th in the low 4s.

It was said on that show that "Daddy Dave" doesn't own the Sonoma. Aparrently he has some money backing him and he is just the driver. Years ago I used to run around with some hard core street racers. I went to Chicago with them one time just to watch and they were racing for some serious cash ($10k plus). The one guy had a "pimp" so to speak who would put up the money for him to race and he had a very fast car, it was running high 8's in the 1/4 with nothing more than a lap belt for safety :eek2: and this was back in the late 90's when that was extremely fast for a street car. Long story short I recon he got in the red with his pimp and his shop was burned to the ground mysteriously. So to answer the question of where the money comes from, I'm sure it's totally legit :puzzled:

The Sonoma is owned by Jackie Knox. The chassis was built by Mickey's Chassis Works. Dave Comstock is the pilot.

Just because of this thread I went to you tube and started watching some episodes. Way to go, I kinda like it!! I agree some parts are obviously staged but wow the cars are nuts and the boys sure are having a good time!!!LOL They seem like (for the most part) cool guys you could just hang out with all day (except my cars are stupidly pathetic slow compared to theirs of course and they would probably run them down all day)..

I used to have a 70 GMC same style as the "farmtruck" and its only claim was 4.10 posi diff/small cam/convertor, used to race guys downtown all the time in the late 80's and made some money too because of the gearing, course couldn't hardly drive over 70 mph due to revs but for short races was great fun. New IROCs and mustangs were all 200 hp wonders at that time too, they sure didn't like getting beat by an old truck!!!

Wonder how many times they say "a**" in a season...:Dou:

Tim, they are fun to hang with. And they don't care how fast you are or aren't. If you want to go faster, there are many who will help out. I don't get to see them often enough, but when I do I'm both ragged on and welcomed like they've known me all their lives.

I like how some of the cars have flames shooting out the exhaust. Gotta be pushing some serious power for that I would think.

16 Yrs ago when i lived in Davison,Mi. , I would go over to Flint and watch some of my friends run! They use to run down I-475 on concrete . Some of those boys had low 9 second cars then and only gotty quicker
Now they only race at Milan Dragway at the No ET. I have been to Detroit and seen some low eight second cars there run, I also been to Waterford and seen some very low eight second cars run, but the fastest cars I ever seen run on the street was in Chicago, Ill., Bob Gliddens ex Pro-Stock car against a pro mod for $35,000 :0 talk about something crazy, Holy crap those cars hauled axx. They raced on a concrete area too! I'm a four generation street racer in my family but I only build engines instead of racing
I have family memebers that still street race, but only when someone has a grand or more. My motto has been this from the beginning , if you can afford a aftermarket block then you can afford the necessary parts to go as fast as you want! Twin turbo kits are not to far out of reach and they can produce crazy horsepower . Sincerely Gary M.

My first meeting with Mike Moran was on the streets of Detroit when he was racing his pinto wagon. That should give some insight on how long I known Mike. That was before he even was a big shot! Spiro Papas is the same way, but I met him down in Howell,Mi. at a gas station. This guys are class act people now! When a friend and I went down to Memphis,Tennessee to see the first NMCA world finals that's where I started to stay in contact with them and was introduced to some of the fastest people out there. That was a turning point in my life.

My wife and I, along with a bunch of friends were there in Memphis. I helped keep people out of the way when they loaded Rick Dyer's '55 with a bucket loader after he hit both walls on the launch. He was racing Annette Summer in he Pepto pink Camaro. Good thing she caught a good light because he crossed just behind her back bumper. Rick's car caught fire under the hood and he wasn't moving at first. I was over the fence on my way to get him out when he opened the door.
The cars sure have evolved since then. Remember the gold Rambler Classic 4dr. with the BBC?y

And when You were in Davison, you had to have pizza at John's. Our Friends (in Clio) Dan & Ruth Hippensteel got us hooked on their food when we stay with them for Back to the Bricks.

Remember when Spiro had the crank block in the finals against the turbo vett? Man, was Spiro ever lucky to have that vett grenade it turbo and Spiro only touched his nitrous and shut his engine off and coasted to a when and that was after he had the windshield busted because of the hood flying up on the car. A friend of mine loaned him that windshield after he went on the pa system asking for a windshield ! What memory flash wow..

I have to say that I really don't care for this show as, to me, it's all staged. The cars may be fast, but I'm quite sure these guys have no fear of actually being arrested while filming. I frankly never understood the appeal of any of these "reality" show on TV. And don't even get me started about the Kardashians!!!

As stated before: Yes, the races on TV have to be in a "controlled environment" with permits and the streets blocked off because of liability. If the production company did otherwise, and there was any kind of mishap, the lawsuits would be coming hot and heavy. I have been to their actual "invite only late night activities" and they are not like the show depicts.
As for the Kardouchians, I think the only race they go for is quite obvious =$$$$$.

I would suggest on looking for a trip north to Michigan and see some very nasty street cars in action at nite!!!!! It still happens to this very day on freeways to invite only areas.

the Kardashians...( I've worked for more then a few top name celebs) I was the same way. No interest in the show but my wife watches them. I would never until. I started working for one of them. and she is the sweetest girl. and stunning beautiful. TV does her no justice. her car collection is awesome. 8 bay garage with all killer cars. fast cars, luxury cars, off road cars. sweet collection. and did I mention she is stunning beautiful. Now I will watch her show. don't believe everything you see on tv. Street Outlaws is a show. Thats it. RATINGS SELL SHOWS. the only thing they got is they'er not at the track. yet they are all track cars. and very nice ones at that. to do that show requires permits, security, lighting, ect. their test hits "may" be the real deal but thats about it. I enjoy the show. racing is racing. who cares where they run. some sick cars man, and they hook hard. That's my .02
