The Strategic oil reserve was created to help prevent financial and economic turmoil due to oil supplies. It was created in 1975 by President Ford. Of course the SPR was full, the pandemic lowered oil prices so much that companies were paying to dump oil into it.
It is designed to be used to help stabilize prices.
It was never meant for war preparedness.

Don't worry that don't mean anything who needs oil and for what? lol To make everything we use/own. If you have any plastic throw it out now as you are contributing to Big Oil Profits.

Several pages back, Nailhead in a 67 posted a chart of the ten countries with the highest gas prices. Obviously y'all noticed that the good ole USA was not on the list. Unfortunately, the gas price by itself doesn't tell us much that is useful. It's the total tax burden that should interest us. Europe has historically had very high gas taxes, but it is my understanding that property taxes tend to be much lower then in the US. The Europeans also suffer through the infamous Value Added Tax (VAT). AS an example of the VAT I'll use JW as an example - you send him your engine which is essentially a tired pile of parts, he sends out your slightly scored crank and has it machined. Now he has a good crank; what was the value of the crank before and after the machine shop finished with it? Let's say the crank was worth $100 when the machine shop received it and $300 when they were done with it. The shop added $200 to the value of the crank and the VAT would be charged on that. Jim assembles the engine with parts and labor of $7,000. The engine was estimated to be worth $1,000 when Jim got it and it's worth $9,000 completed (Prices are not intended to be realistic). The value added tax would be based on the $8,000 difference. It's a brutal tax, Also remember that just about every civilized country except the US provides free medical care. I'd like to move on to one more tax topic, but I'm not going to be the one to explode this thread.

 

the SPR is at 50% because it was used to help keep gas prices down at the onset of the Ukraine war. Imagine the complaining here if it hadn't been used and gas prices had been allowed to go way higher.

 

There is going to be complaining here no matter what. No point in trying to use logic to stop it.

 

I think it laughable when someone posts prices in other countries and think it’s relevant to compare non-oil producing countries to the USA (Canada) that has the largest untapped oil reserves on the planet. Apples and mosquitoes.

Anybody that tries to justify high gas prices isn’t a real car person and should be banned from this forum Lol . High octane Gas should be free for cars over 25 years old, like a retirement benefit.

$4.39 for premium today at the local Marathon oil prices are supposed to drop in the next few weeks, after holiday and once all schools get going. 2nd week of September it should cool off .
