Funny this just came back up. I scored one (2012 Caprice) yesterday via a local auction for $2625. it has lifter/misfire issues (common issue) that needs fixed. Looking forward to playing with this thing. Bought it without checking it over first. I am taking a chance, but feel confident it will work out ok. Body looks clean...don't know the mileage yet, but these generally have between 80k-120k on the clock...so we'll see. good luck with your search...check the local auctions.
I wish there were more around my area. Every single one on govdeals has afm failure. The logistics of getting it make it less desirable for me. If it was local I’d jump on something cheap
Zero desire to own a B body. Slow and huge plus honestly I dislike the way they look. I’d much rather have a caprice ppv.
Here’s my friends car on the dyno. Be warned the music is horrible https://www.instagram.com/p/BtCBF4IA5DF/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=14rds0o4ilp4e
Dude..96 caprice's will surprise you... my 1 owner grandma car..i had it detailed and it looks brand new..like right off the show room floor.. 5.7 LT1..OD..3.23 posi..F-41 suspension..full power every thing..the only thing it doesnt have is rear discs and a moon roof.. it will surprise you..i mean..it will SURPRISE you...its like driving youre living room couch out on the hiway...love it...tire burner...I mean tire roaster....does 110 easily...but floats so bad i'm afraid to go faster...so some cop car shocks and pads..and a lower and its an SS wanna-be....and drive it normal and its 22mph..hey it aint pretty by PRETTY standars, but it aint GROSS...all this car, and only $2500.oo and ive had 2 dozen people beg me to sell it to them..so.. forgive the thumb...id take more pics, but its sitting under 6 inches of fresh snow tody
Glad it works for you but no thanks. I’d much rather have an ls powered car that’s fun to drive. I’ve driven old b bodies, just not what I’m looking for.
its ok..its a clean beater..id rather drive my CTS-V believe me, but a cruise down to the store or across town, i dont mind the Caprice at all..
Dec '96 - when GM handed the police/taxi/fleet market to Ford. Should have kept it in production - just to have the fleet sales, if nothing else.
LEO friend of mine said he wished GM never quit making the Caprice. He said they easily outran the Crown Vic's.
I think the only reason GM killed them was the success of full size SUVs-they needed a plant to build more Tahoes and other body on frame SUVs, and Arlington was the best choice. So a product that was selling pretty well (but long in the tooth and profit compromised by fleet sales) died to nake room for ‘the future’-high profit fast selling truckwagons. Patrick
