Boy...your first car beats the crap out of mine. I got an 84 Merc Topaz GS from my grandfather for a buck when I was 21 (he also had a 72 F-100 with a 302 3 on the tree. I really wanted this one) The only thing that was good about this car was that it had the most comfortable bucket seats. The rest of the car was garbage and sold it to my brother when I got my 91 Crown Vic Interceptor. Then I finally got my real GS in 1997. Its amazing that I went from that crappy car to a 70 GS in 4 years.

Congrats to both of you guys, and best of luck to you and your first car, Josh!!!

My uncle (now 55) got his license when he was 15. I know when I was of age you could get your learners permit when you were 15 and had to wait for the 6 months to be up before you got your license. So you could actually get a license at 15. Don't know if PA law still dictates this. I should have gone that route instead of waiting till I was 18, but the parents said when I got my license I had to pay my own insurance. I thought there was no need for me to get a license till I absolutely needed one.

No comments from Josh in a while...... I bet he's still sitting in the car just as the pictures shows. They'll have to bring a laptop out to him so he can post.

LOL rick, i AM on a laptop... but ive actually been sleeping in like a bum... i know i know thats gotta stop so i can actually get a job...
This car wasnt actually given to me guys.. it was bought as an incentive for me to get a job so i can purchase the car from him.. thats the way its gotta be or he'd have to buy my older sister a car as well as my younger brother and i dont think he wants to do that.. i guess you could say hes just holding it for me

    Congrats Josh!

    Now, just my opinion-

That is a great car with the small block 350. Very torquey - perfect for a driver gaining experience. I had a '72 Lark with the 2 barrel 350 a few years ago, pretty good mileage and fun to drive.

Don't be in a big hurry to put in a big block and turn it into a race car. If you take your time and keep the car stock for a few years, it will hold up better and you will be ready when you eventually rod it out. It is very hard to make a car like that nice and fast on a high school budget. Spend your money and effort making and keeping it nice - fast will come later.

Also, don't clone it into a GS - Skylarks are COOL!

I agree with that to a point... I want a 4 barrel on it, and dual exhaust.. and a posi! I dont want to be showed up by all the civics that actually run at my school... i know of a turbo one thats in the 12's... dont think ill catch him..

That is one CLEAN looking Lark!
    I wouldn't change a thing.
    :TU:

(Except maybe to add a mirror to the passenger door. I have always thought they looked "unbalanced" without them) :pp
Besides that... they are very useful too. Especially for a new driver. :)

My thoughts exactly.. but how much is a pass. side trishield mirror? would i be better off getting the sport mirrors?

Those are very hard to come by and expensive for a nice one. You might have better luck finding a non-Trishield mirror. I think sport mirrors look good too. BTW, nice ride, and your one lucky guy. I wish it were in my driveway!

Very nice car man. My first was a 86 chevy truck with more rust than your average junkyard with a 4 barrel (but only 2 actually worked because of the whole no-linkage part :Do No: ).

The only thing I would do is bring the rear up about an inch and stick some wider rubber on it. Then you could just scare away the rice.

    To the buick Family,
Thank you all for your responses to Josh about our new car. You guys (gals) don't have to worry about me putting undo pressure on you. As Josh said in an earlier post, The car is his only if he gets a job and pays for it, Otherwise it's my new race car project. Apparently he doesn't fully understand why I won't buy him or any of my children a car. I believe kids learn respect for property and for themselves when they EARN something like a car. I try very hard to teach my children to succeed in life through hard work and honorable actions. I suppose in 10 yrs. we can all see how my wife and I did! Anyway, the reason I got on tonight was to tell everyone thank you. My wife has read your responses and is starting to get "the BUICK thing."
    Marty
