Hello Everybody, I just wanted to drop a note and let you know about a little surprise my wife and I gave Josh, our 15 yr. old. Some or most of you might know, Josh is a young man who lives on this board. He does alot of reading and responds when he can add value to the conversation. Well a couple of weeks ago I agreed to purchase a '70 Skylark from a fine young man in Carrolton TX. He needed time to find a new ride since the Lark was his everyday driver. To make a long story short we hooked up at a resturant where our family was having dinner this evening. Kyle gets to the resturant. I jump up greet him, and go outside to take care of business. My wife tells our 2 boys that the guy was somebody that worked for me, so they thought nothing of it. I come back, we eat, we leave. Anyway we walk across the street to our suburban and as Josh is starting to get in, he notices the white '70 lark parked a short distance away. He bolts over to look at it. Starts telling his mother about how the car "looks like the one Dad should have bought off V8 Buick" He had this car on the family computer as the wall paper until I had Kyle report it as sold on the board. So Josh is carying on about it to his mother. He looks into the car and sees the seat cover on the front seat. He goes nuts! Tells his mother that this is definately the car! While he turned talking to her, I pull out the keys and unlock the door. Josh's jaw literally drops and says "what are you doing?" Then the light came on. Hopefully Josh will now find a job so he can call this "his '70 Lark". This was truly a great Buick moment! Thanks for all your mentoring. Marty
What a great story!!! Lucky kid, and his is ALOT cooler then my 1st car. I got a 74 Nova 4 door six cylinder. ou:
Edited this post, after re-reading it, sounded like I was slamming your car, but wasnt meant in any way to be that..... I looked at this car as well, but funds was sent in another direction. Sweet ride guys:TU:
Great heart warming story! Wish my sons were into cars so we could share the love and bond. Car looks super!
Awsome! What a sweet lookin' ride too. Marty, great job! I'll bet you felt like a million bucks at that moment. Josh, you're lucky to have a great dad AND friend like that. Now get to work, you've got some insurance to pay for!:beer
sweeeeeet What a great story, Congrats to you Josh and Marty. This could be nominated for : "Heartwarming Buick Story of the Year" B&D
Nice. My first car was a 79 Silverado with a blown motor and rust eaten floorboards. It was given to my father when I was 14 and he told me if I wanted it, I have to fix it. We put a 454 in it and did all the body work and had it ready when I got my license. Stupid me blew up the motor trying to "hotrod" it. We then put a 350 in it.........
Congratulations! This puts some pressure on some of the rest of us! My 15 year old son bought his own 72 Skylark with money he has earned from a job at his grandfather's farm. It is a project that needs a lot of work - floorboards are the first step. I just stored my convertible so I could make room to move his car into the garage today. Have fun Josh. You are a lucky young man.
