I ended up being the high bidder on the 71 GSX but the reserve wasn't met. The seller sent me a second chance offer to buy it at 15,500 through ebay but I have to pass since I am a newly unemployed buick nut. I do have 21 hours left to find a good paying job but I just don't see that happening. Honestly, its not very often you're going to get a crack at picking up a GSX for 15 grand...

Hit the "Buy it now" button, you chicken!

Let the government pay for it through unemployment.

    Too bad...

I really do like the car and love the colors. If I were to paint stripes on my conv, those are the colors I'd pick. :Smarty:

And it sure would look great next to the conv, but I don't have an extra $20,000 sitting around.:ball:

Does this car have air, if not that black interior would kill you in the Summers....:Do No:

Are the 14 inch wheels correct for a GSX ? I thought they all had 15X7 WG wheels

Good luck with it. Throw it inside the back of the barn and maybe in 20 years the dynamics will be different.

WG is 1970 (2nd half) only John.

The 15x7 wheels were an option on any GS in 1971-1972

Hmmm...No bidders on a $15k GSX, regardless of how good the 350 is the fact that it's a small block has to be what's killing it.
You'd have to believe a 455 X in that shape would have made $25k pretty easy.

More like bidding would have started at $25k. What was the price for a 455, something like $350 back then? It cut the value of this car in HALF!:jd: :Dou: :ball:

Yeah, I was being very conservative. If I was an X guy I would have bought this car put the engine in a crate in the garage and put a 455 in it in a second.

wouldent that kill the value of the car even more??

It looks like the value has been hammered pretty well for an X car. I dont think putting a 455 in it could hurt it. Plus it would make it a whole bunch more fun to drive :3gears:

ok, im seriously thinking of getting this car, so what do you mean by that speelman??: also what can the you the helpful people on this board tell me about this car?? is it defenitly a real GSX? can anyone see any noticible flaws, problems, reasons NOT to get this car?

I just noticed that although it has a tach, it looks like idiot lights on the other side.

I can only figure this was ordered by somebody who wanted to be extra flashy on the outside, plain Jane on the inside. Maybe a rich dad who didn't want his kid to kill themself or something. Note the speed alert on the speedo set to 92MPH. You don't see that everyday either.

One of my room mates at NIU had a blue/black 71GS455 with those exact same plain Jane bench seats back in 74-75. Brings back memories. One weekend we installed speakers in the doors, then when we were all done found out that the windows didn't roll all the way down anymore. OOPS. Put the cut-outs back on with electrical tape. Good thing it was black. LOL...

The more I look at this GSX, the more I seem to like it. Then again, I've always liked the underdogs.

    Dan,
The only way to prove it is a GSX is with the Buildsheet or original paperwork. Other then that you can only tell if it was a SCO car or not.

It's a shame I am involved in 3 projects at this time. If I had my cars done, and it is as nice as it looks, there would be no need to talk about this because it would be in my driveway.

I keep going back and looking at this car. It really "floats my boat" as the saying goes. Unfortunatly it has the small block in it which affects the value of the car as we are seeing by the bids on it, however if I had the room and one less car apart I would have bid on it. This car would be a blast to own, and yes I would pull the 350 and drop in a 455. My personal preference.
I cant say if this is a real X car. I only see what everyone else sees in the pictures. I think the only true way is the build sheet like Duane says. If it's within a reasonable distance it may be worth a roadtrip to go a see the car before agreeing to a price. Anyway, all that being said, if I had one less project this car might be in my driveway.
    Good luck

If it's a real X, I would bet it would increase the value, I know I'd be willing to spend more on it if it came with a nicely built 455 installed and the original motor boxed up.
Now if it was an original BBB X it would definately hurt the value.

I guess I'll be checking this car out soon. I suppose if the grill breaks and repairs aren't to bad, and the paint may only need buffed, that maybe its a pretty good deal. Either way, I'll be crawling under, over, inside etc it to get the real story. Remember, I only checked it out once. This time I'll do a supercheck. Anyway, I asked Wormwood for this info, but I need any expert to chime in. I don't know numbers. I need info fast. Thanks.
