User SB__ seems to be a scammer. Joined a couple of days ago, offered to buy my car sight unseen. Wanted my bank info so he could wire me the money. Didn't ask any questions about the car. Activity suspiciously timed with a separate phishing attempt to get my apple ID password.

I am a serious buyer looking to get this car for my friend (his family car from when he was younger).

I am happy to provide my identity in private to anyone who may know Stacey and can smooth things over.

I offered to let Stacey do full due diligence on me, my identity, etc, but he ghosted me and stopped replying. I don't know anything about vehicles and Stacey seemed like a very trusted source/individual to purchase from...

Can anyone please help? This is my friends' dream car and I cannot find it anywhere else. I'm so sorry if you have had bad interactions before; however, everything is above-board here and I'm just trying to help my friend.

Happy to use whatever attorney or escrow service of your sole choosing if it makes you comfortable.

Why don't you ask your friend to register here and let him buy the car from Stacey.....?
Especially because you say that you "don't know anything about vehicles".

It's a surprise and gift that I'm buying it for him :).

Again - happy to go through any due diligence or escrow you need to be comfortable.

Don't we have some sort of investigative process to determine if this is a Scam or not?

I have never seen this before, there must be some process in place to sort this out? Yes, No?

    That's to bad.
Maybe i'am naive, this guy doesn't sound like a scammer.

That said, Priariecanary does make a strong case via his post.

When I was searching for my 70 GS, I was lied too by a lot of Classic car Dealerships. Chris P, saved my bacon with his Buick knowledge and search capability, don't know what I would have done without his help and support. It's tough searching for a car online, you just don't know who you're dealing with. VET (Navy)

@jherb & I were just talking about this the other day re: buying a car & all the bs out there.

I also tend to be too trusting and have been burned twice by board members but 99+% on here are good folks. @cjp69 is a good one & helped me facilitate a deal when I sold my 2nd '70 Stage 1 4-sp several years ago. 1st one I sold back in '03 was a good transaction - It was his board member brother that had initially contacted me & wound up screwing me over:).

I just PM'ed Jim Weise and informed him of this situation and asked him why we don't have a process to investigate situations that come up like this?

I know we have rules & polices for advertising parts and cars for sale.
Maybe this needs to be modified to become stronger, to keep scammers out of our forum?

Dano, very sorry to hear you have been screwed by another forum member.
You're right, 99% on this forum are standup folks that I trust, but, it only takes one to create mistrust. VET

Jim manually verifies each user. I am not seeing anything that indicates this is a scam.

    Smartin, thank you so much.
I wasn't aware Jim did this verification.
This is good to know. Again, thanks. VET (Navy)

I did call Jim to get approved. I've never been accused of being a scammer for asking for wire details and letting someone know I can have a freight service pickup within 24 hours.

Normally I would head the other direction, but this car is an extremely important gift for sentimental reasons and I would really like to complete the transaction that was agreed to. ($15k paid via bank wire, I arranged freight for local pickup)

To prairecanary, I suggest opening a new account with zero balance and forwarding the details to the sb_.

If the money shows up, you know they are real.
