I can tell you from my experience painting the 71 GS grilles. They take me 6 hours to mask and paint. Any reproduction grilles would have to be painted and should include the studs. This would eliminate quality problems. People will try to put the wrong stud into the grilles and break the mounts. I have seen this with original grilles.

That was tried and you should have heard people bitch..."im not putting up money for something that may not be produced"....nobody was ever billed.

Frank, I have pruchased two of your coolant bottles, wonderful pieces, and I will probably buy another one (at least) for a spare once things settle down with the ragtop.

I will definitely take a 71 grille if it matches the quality of your coolant bottle. If you need a deposit, let me know. I would take two is they were 500.00 or less.

I would have no problems painting my own grille (hell we do it now) but i would have to agree with Duane on this point. I have had parts that wouldn't sell for 10.00, get a 5.00 can of spray paint and paint it, then it sells for 40.00. Go figure. Just human nature.

The really sad part?? If we could get HALF of the registered users here to kick in 20.00 each we would be well on our way....

I don't have a problem with where its made, lets just get it made!

If these are ever made, people who say they want one better get off the fence. Because I will buy all the extras I can afford to put in the attic of my shed. Since it is this hard to get the project off the ground who knows if there ever would be a second run.

Whoever whines about the price can just keep driving around on their skylark grill or broken gs ones.

These guys that are stepping up and making repro stuff are probably not just doing this to pad thier retirement.Just like everything else if there were huge profit margins everyone would be doing it.

If the price reflected a "non painted grill" I'd be in for sure. Either way Painted or not............. I'd buy one possibly 2 and put some $$ up front! I'd just like the piece of mind to have a spare at this point.

gentlemen, I get your position. My price SHOULD be coming back on the 70 grill late next week. (Don"t hold me to the time). I will then get a price on the 71 grill. I will not do both grilles at once. And then again if I do any becuase of the price. My words to you are, they will be good quality. As of now they will be unpainted. And like the coolant bottles only a limited quantity will be made. Make no commitments to me now, I can't commit to you now. Also someone else might beat me to it. Thanks for the interest. Buicfrank

Duane i'll be contacting you if this is a possibility.

I would suggest that if they are unpainted to mold them in a color as close as possible to the small mesh color. This would allow the buyer to mask and paint the outer section which is much easier than trying to paint in the small mesh areas.I would also make sure the GSCA is or is not doing the 70 grille;if they are Frank could go with a 71 GS grille.Maybe we can end up with both being repro'd soon!!!

I agree, but there is also a larger market for the 70's...about twice as many GS cars built.....
