  8. I don't know if Frank is working on 71's.... Someone else ANONYMOUSLY posted that they would have 71 grilles soon, like this spring/summer, but I'm not holding my breath. They did not reply to the posts that followed, and haven't been back here since. That was maybe a month ago??

Looks like the 71's are the ones to reproduce. Still see 70's often and they don't generate the hype of the 71's. Maybe, several of us can get together and get up enough $$$$ to promote making one. I don't require a NOS $2000 grill in my car. A less than $1000 repro. will do just fine.

    Guys,
I will tell you what's really funny about all of this. When I was selling the parts pictured, at the prices listed, all I heard was people bitching about how expensive they were, and how I could sell twice as many if I lowered the prices.

Today the wheels are $299 with a core, and $399 with no core, and the grills are out of sight. I also will only have 10 wheels for sale later this year, as that is the number of cores I have left.

This has been talked about on other threads, but I will repeat it one more time. If I and other buick parts reproducers could have received some funding help over the years, and everyone that said they needed the parts bought them, you would not see the terrible prices for parts today. The hard to find pieces would already be reproduced and readily available.

I have been preaching for the last 12-15 years that these days were coming, but no one would listen. Believe me, I would be very happy to see my NOS 71 grill be only worth $700 instead of the + $2100 it is today. If repros were available, that might be the going rate.

The time to talk about this kind of thing is WAY over. Now it's time to either get someone to plop the money on the table, to get the job done, or make everyone understand and deal with the results.

    GS Grill

I was recently involved in an e-Bay auction for a 69 GS grill. The bidding stopped at $1050 and we hadn't met the reserve yet. At those prices, it's about time somebody did a repro that would go for $500-$600. There have got to be a lot of guys/gals that would spring for that to spruce up their rides.

You can read about the auction in Hemmings Muscle Car Mar '04. If I had been a winning bidder, I would have had a funny story [my obit] in the wife stories thread.

    Repo Grilles

Ther was an offer years ago to repo the 71 grille,i think the mold was 150000 state side and 50000 overseas,we asked how many people would be willing to deposit a refundable deposit of 135.00 we got 3 people that said they would, needless to say we never did it,AJ

How many people on here would actually put up money for a 71 GS Repro. grill? Curious

gentlemen I see my name has been mentioned in some of the above posts. All I will say is that I am getting my mfg to give me a quote on the 70 grill. After that I'm borrowing a 71 to get a price on also. Please don't get excited yet. IF I was to produce it would still be 8 to 10 months before any type of sales. My only question would be: Would you gentlemen accept a grill if I didn"t paint it? Well?

:puzzled: I might but what are the chances of a 69 grill  and how much we talking :Do No:

  19. I wouldn't care about paint, but then I'm not in need of a 70 or 71 grille, so my opinion isn't good for much on this project. I think the reduced cost of providing them unpainted would be attractive, but there would also be many that would want a finished grille for their money. I don't know which way would be a winner.

I would gladly paint my own grille if that would help production and/or keep costs down.I own one non Buick collector car a 70 Ford Torino Cobra and grille for those are like the GS grilles a hard, easy to break plastic that is near impossible to find as well.I bought a repro one from a man who made them from a firm but flexable plastic that will not break easily. The plastic may be similar to the plastic Frank used on the repro overflow tanks. He stated the mold was not a permanate one and would only last for a certain number of grilles; but the repro grille sold for $300.00 which seemed reasonable for a factory looking but stronger grille.
