Many people who are interested in buying a car may it be a new or used car look at web sites and magazines as a guide before buying a vehicle . Companies search warranty repairs and also repair shops that do mechanical work after warranty and on and on . They really don't need to know cars as well as us car guys . Thats not thier job , is it ? It's all about the #'s ! Now you know !
So you mean to tell me people who are interested in buying a car will look at that site to get an idea what are the Top 10 Worst Cars Ever? The Pacer is a whipping boy. In its time, it was a unique solution to a transportation problem. I've gotta hand it to AMC for thinking outside the box, which is what it took when you're going against GM, Ford, and Chrysler.
Initially, it was successful. But then it began to show signs of underdevelopment, no doubt due to the fact that AMC's plans to use the Wankel fell through. The car also ended up being a few hundred pounds heavier than planned, which didn't help with fuel economy. If It was a GM product, I bet the Pacer would have had more staying power.
Don't forget that AMC marketed a 4 wheel drive car-the Eagle up until the early '80s. That took balls and was really a good idea. A neighbor had a new 1983 Eagle Limited 4 wheel drive wagon. Wood ,real leather and all. I was impressed back then. I would own and drive one now if I ever ran across one. Most here- especially Deigo I believe- would concur that the '74-'78 AMC Matador is one ugly beast. I would love to get one myself. I like "different". Stuff you don't see all the time. Hmmm, maybe a '74 Oleg Cassini Matador with a 401. Or how about a '78 Barcelona II Matador in 2 tone tan/gold?
I have only the Buicks listed in my sig here. I have other cars as well, including a couple of '62 Chrysler 300 ragtops. If I ever run across either one of those 2 Matadors I mentioned, or a nice Eagle Limited 4X4 wagon ......
I've got to agree. The guy that put the list together probably has a kia on 20" rims with a big fart can out the back. I didn't like the pacer back then, don't like it now, but come on.... Top of the list? The Yugo was only number eight on this list. I've seen other lists with different cars. Often has the corvair at or near the top of the list because of the campaign to kill the car. The lists are often based on popularity rather than quality and use revisionist history to rate them. The corvair for example was no where near as unsafe as they claim. They weren't the only one with the design flaw that made the rear end a little questionable and they fixed the problem before the production run was over. Plus you had to be in a near roll over situation to have a handling problem with the car. These lists are pretty much jokes.
It didn't take balls - it took desperation. The Eagle was merely an outdated Hornet on a 4WD chassis.
Anytime they make a list of bad cars and put the Aztec on it you know it's bull. That wasn't a great car, but it got all it's negative press for being odd looking. People put it on the list based on looks alone which proves the list is crap. The fact that the Chevette is on the list but the Omni and the Escort aren't is just more proof. All time worst cars are French cars from most eras, Korean cars before 5 years ago, most domestics that come out right before a bankruptcy, any Toyota made after 2002, and all Tatas (the vehicles not the boobies). I'm sure there are more, but I'm not bored enough to search
The Renault offerings from the 80's (The 5, 9, 11) all sold very well in Europe and have quite a reputation as good cars. Interestingly, American cars never sold well in Europe, probably for the same reasons.
Board member Ken Cotrona did his first (and only) gig as a male nude model on the bonnet(s) of the Renault 5 LeCar: Click here :Comp:
Yeah Deigo. A few come to mind ................ Renault Alpine-especially the last models in the mid '90s,Renault R5 turbo, any Bugatti,Delage,Talbot, the beautiful Delahaye, certain Panhards.
LeCar, LePeeyu. I know of 2 people (one being my Wife) that owned Renault LeCars back in the 80's that were sold by AMC. Both on separate occasions years apart from each other, told me horror stories about those cars. Including the fact that whenever it rained these cars would not start despite trips back to the dealer to find a fix. After the weather cleared and they were driveable that is.
Is this close enough for you? Looks like an excellent buy, and it's even close to Buick colors! http://duluth.craigslist.org/cto/2443345777.html
Well, everybody has an odd car now and then Here is my son's latest summer ride. 1986 Dodge 600 convertible. The son in the picture owned it until the trans locked up reverse, he then had older son co-sign on a car loan to get something newer and gave him the 600 as a thank you. 15 months later the older boy went to junk yard and got a transmission and swapped it in. Now it is his daily driver because it gets better mileage than his Ford Ranger 4x4. The top is crap, so he doesn't drive in the rain much or he gets wet, but the world is his oyster on sunny days.
Re: Well, everybody has an odd car now and then I bet he hasn't got to drive it much this year!! Gotta love the Pacific Northwest!!
