Update!!!! Ok we got it licked! I have been running Mickey Thompson drag radials since I have swapped out the custom rims that came on the car, with Buick Rallys. It seem those Mickeys REALLY hook. After discussing the problem with my MOPAR buddy Steve, he suggested I swap out the Mickys with a regular street tire. . .I threw on some Sears Guardsman rollers I had on my 66 project. Went over to Hess and made sure we had 30 psi in each tire, left the station and at a 10 mph roll gave it the business. Left 2 nice stripes on the road blowing the tires off the rims:3gears: Off the line. Dropped the clutch at 25-3000 blew em off the rims again through second. I think we are set. :TU:
It appears so. Dump the clutch with the other tires its a totally different caro No: Still have the scraping noise as I am releasing the clutch in first and reverse. . .we'll have to take a peek and see what's up. Runs good and strong though.
You need to check the pinion angle. That is something that everyone should do, especially with a manual transmission. Easy to do with a Sears angle finder.
Tony said the pedal is engaging real low. I bet the pressure plate isnt releasing the disc all the way. As if you were trying to put the car in gear with the pedal not all the way down. I think another turn or two of the adjuster rod will take care of it
Tony.. What's the final build specs on the engine.. I'm sure it's here somewhere but I can't find it.. Jay
The engine was offered at a reasonable price so I jumped on it rather than rebuild the engine that is in the car that Jason & I had just put together. The newer engine has 10:1 Hyper pistons, a Poston GS 118 cam, roller rockers, head work and seemed to be running in good order. :gp:
Well kids the moment of truth is at hand. Today the new ceramic clutch pressure plate and T.O. bearing was installed by Falcon Clutches, pilot bushing replaced with the right "custom" size - long story, don't ask. ou: Jason hooked me up with the F70-15s polyglass tires. Tomorrow all of the hard work and $$ spent will be enjoyed at the Supercar Shootout at E-Town. I am hoping the car will give me a 13.XX run. Wish me luck or just come on down and root Jessica and I on. . . Full report and pics to follow. :3gears::TU:
I've been getting updates from Antney at the track. I don't want to post anything, but he didn't break anything.
Here is the update. . .Small Blocks Suck:bla: Alright, alright don't kill me I was just hoping to be in the 14s with a modified 350 my disappointment is getting the better of me. Look, it was my first time out in the car and I have driven it literally 4 times before today. New clutch worked the way a clutch should. Tires broke but the clutch held. . . YEAAA!! No grinding noise etc. etc tranny worked well. My first run was my best run at 15.379 - 90.36 MPH. I spun the tires on the launch through the first gear. Each subsequent run, I played with the timing, my launch, and short shifting - all gave me worse results no point in posting... I was shifting into 4th at about the 1000' (car was still pulling at 5-5200 rpm) Next race I will give 4th gear the day off and see if that improves the times any. Car was liking 36* @ 2500 timing. I will stick with that for now. I was running 5 gallons of 116 with 10 gallons of 93. Unfortunately I had put more 93 octane thinking I would have burned off by today in the car when I got home from The NE luncheon last week, but it was in the shop getting the clutch and not getting driven by me - so I was 5-8 gallons over where I wanted to be. No big deal. Car weight with me in it was 3945 lbs. Coming out of the hole slowly didnt help my 60' times and made the engine labor to get into the power ban. A happy medium would be very minimal wheel spin then hooking hard (as if I had to explain that) - it's all in the left and right foot (not the wrist). Anyways the car runs very well the motor is strong and sounds excellent its just lacking 200 or so needed HP to be competitive:ball:. It is what it is. . . so the only things I will be doing to it is getting it aligned, and putting a better more strip suited cam in it. I will take suggestions on the new cam. I was thinking the TA 290-94H or the C113. . . Here is a youtube link to the first run. I know the "burnout" was abysmal - I dropped the button that controls the line lock ou: http://youtu.be/Lpa6DaZ8zgU
