We'll get it sorted out. I think the transporters were total hacks and did more damage than I first noticed.

The exhaust shop has had the car since yesterday. The manifolds had excessive rust around the outlet "doughnuts" . The mechanic was concerned that they wouldn't seal well and eventually blow out. I told him we were in luck a couple of weeks ago I picked up a nice set of manifolds from Jay3000. Brought them over to the shop and we are back on track. Baring any broken manifold bolts, tomorrow is shaping up to be a nice cruising day! Stay tuned:TU:

I'll give ya 3 guesses and the first 2 don't count. what happened when they tried to take off the 40 year old exhaust manifolds. That's right! they broke the first 2 bolts they tried to loosen. I told them to hook up the exhaust to the manifolds on the car, drill out, tap, and reinstall the bolts they broke and forget about swapping out the manifolds. Un F'in Believable! All I want to do is just drive the freakin thing!
It was beautiful after 12:00 today, it would have been great to cruise around for a while. . . DENIED!

Now lets hope they dont drill into the water passage on the head. If I were you, I'd back out the two bolts when you get it home and make sure they arent leaking antifreeze. I bought a 350 engine like that once. Had to get another head

Okay so here is an update. Car is running well, driving good. Took it to a car show/swap meet today about 20 miles from my house. Had a nice ride up there. Having a lot of fun with the 4 speed. I did however fry the Zoom clutch that is in there (already). I had put the rubber boot in that protects the hole for the clutch fork. It seem that boot was restricting the clutch from fully engaging. Thus, when I attempted my first burnout, there was more clutch smoke than tire smoke:eek2: . So my plan is for a new centerforce dual friction clutch assembly after we do the cam. :TU:

    Update!!
A couple of months ago I purchased a 350 from a member. The engine was rebuilt a few years ago by the previous owner of the car. He used all Poston & T/A parts in the rebuild. The engine was offered at a reasonable price so I jumped on it rather than rebuild the engine that is in the car that Jason & I had just put together. The newer engine has 10:1 Hyper pistons, a Poston GS 118 cam, roller rockers, head work and seemed to be running in good order.
Today the weather man called for a chilly day with A POSSIBLE snow flurry:rolleyes: so I decided to put on some thermal under ware and get the engine swap going. I have been chomping at the bit due to the fact that, in 3 weeks, I plan to race the car at e-town (Supercar Shootout), and drive the car to the spring dust off in Putnam County in 2 weeks. Off to Jason's house and we get going. Everything was going very well. We extracted the 1st engine fairly easy and then the monkey wrench was thrown in from Mother Nature and some gremlins. It began to snow. Then the pilot bushing was not fitting correctly. Jason, with his infinite patients, took about .006's off the inside of the bushing with Emory cloth, a socket, and a million twists back and forth. As he was doing this the snow never let up, it didn't stick but it made everything a wet mess especially the tops of our head and shoulders. I then notice the spline pattern on the tranny is fine 26 spline and the new centerforce clutch going in is. . .Yep . . . coarse 10 spline. My wife runs over to the speed shop, all they have in stock are RAM clutch disks. I get it because the engine is hanging in the air awaiting the clutch, hopefully it will work as well as the centerforce and this won't bite me in the ass. An hour of twisty sanding Jason rectifies the pilot bushing problem. Jason has always said to me that the SB bell housing never seemed right to him. He goes into his private parts stash and gives me the correct bell housing. I believe the one I have was from a 300 and although it migh be right for the earlier SBBs it is visibly different than the one donated by Jason. We get the tranny mated with the engine and get it in the car so we can put the hood back on and be done with the misery this turned in to.
Folks I cannot begin to tell you my admiration for Jason - a man who I call friend. I'll never be able to repay him unless I hit lotto then I will just buy him a concourse GSx, and even then I'll still be in the hole indebted to him. As always thanks buddy- you're the best!
I hope by next Thrs. It should be running again. I "gave" Jason the day off tomorrow. Today was miserable enough. We just decided to enjoy St. Paddys day without further backyard mechanic aggravation :pp.
When I (I mean Jason) get it running ill give Ya'all an update. Till then Erin Go Bragh!!

    Sounds like a Bromance.

Too bad it was too cold to paint the frame rails and inner fenders while the engine was out.

    Looks good though.

Yesterday, I stopped by the Cook Buick Garage to see how the car was coming. I found Jason and Antney hard at work. After connecting up the transmission, and clutch, Antney hooked up the exhaust, and fan shroud, and changed the oil. Turned out the engine had a metric filter cover, and we needed a PF47/52 type filter. Off to the parts store. I took a look at the MSD billet distributor that was to be installed. Took the cap and rotor off, and found unknown springs (they looked like front coil springs!), and unknown advance stop bushing (might have been silver). Jason dipped into his parts bin, and came up with a black bushing (18* of mech advance), and some lighter springs. Installed that, and we located TDC, dropped the distributor in, and test fired the engine for 5 seconds or so. All we needed to do was fill the engine with coolant. I suggested filling it with water first, and it is a good thing we did. First problem was the stat housing. It was pouring out the bottom. Typical problem of the stat falling out of the recess in the intake, and getting caught between the intake and housing creating a massive leak. Fixed that easily after getting a new gasket. Second problem was a leak at the front of the intake. Torquing the bolts to 45 ft. lbs cured that. We fired her up, topped the radiator off. I set the initial at 16*, and checked the total advance. Yup, 34*, and was in nice and early. Antney took her for a ride with Jason. Oops, forgot the nuts on the back of the motor mount long bolts. Thought that was the cause of the noise from the drive shaft hitting something. That turned out to be the PO homemade drive shaft loop. Sawzalled that off. That's when I left. Engine sounded great, and healthy.

Well . . .After Larry Left. . . The drive shaft was hitting the floor, and not the home made DS loop that was suspected. . . But, this is what we found out, when I took the car for a ride, the noise didn't happen, when I put someone in the passenger seat. . .the drive shaft u-joint knuckle was lightly hitting the floor. It was 6:30 and Jason and I were spent. I drove the car home last night and she runs real well and strong.
Got up this morning and set Jessica up on jack stands so I can get under her and be able to swing a special tool. . .A Metal Pursuader. . .or in other circles of life, a 4 pound lump hammer. Moved the floor boards about a 1/2" or so. Put the DS back in and took Mrs. Yac for a ride. No rubbing. Drove around for a while. Engine runs well but I am having problem with the clutch. I tried a little 3K drop of the clutch with the line lock set, and yes the tires did break loose but I also had tremendous clutch slippage (yea the clutch smoked up. . .again) It's a brand new clutch .
Can anyone post a picture of the correct Throwout bearing. We have the "shorter" one in and I think the taller one is the correct application for a small block (even though both clutches I have installed have given me the shorter version in their kit- Centerforce and Zoom).
I am getting a metal to metal rubbing sound when I depress the clutch in first and to reverse. It's not grinding but sounds more like something touching metal that is spinning (like the throwout bearing. Maybe someone (4 spd. experts) can shed some light on this??

This is the old clutch fork from The parts place. I made short video of the slop and play when trying to put a release bearing in it. The same release brearing fit snugly in my original BB fork. We were able to locate a US made aftermarket fork that fit much better.
