Today, I started working on the 70 Skylark I bought off the board a few weeks ago. My wife Darlene had seen pictures of the car but seemed unimpressed until she pulled in the driveway after work the day the car arrived and saw the Burnt Orange Skylark with the blacked out bumpers. She walked in the house and said "That's Hot!!" So, while sitting on the couch after working on the car throughout the day I asked Darlene "What are we going to name this one?" She says "It reminds me of a hot Redhead, like Jessica Rabbit". I sit without saying a word for a moment rolling the image of the car and the cartoon bombshell in my head, I look at her and say " You nailed it Jessica Rabbit it is!!" After the shipping fiasco the lower rad support was bent to hell and needed to be replaced. Thanks to Bruno and a used Rad support. It's all done. Here are some before and after shots. So what's in store for Jessica? In the very near future she will be fitted with a '66 high compression 340 and a Super T-10 4speed. I will be racing her in the Supercar Shootout races a few buddies of mine participate in (MOPAR Boys) as well as Buick races. Some street floggings will be in order as well. The 340 will be getting a ISKY 282 cam, timing set, new oil pump and timing cover. Maybe by next year she will find a Big Block to fill her engine bay. . . I'll keep you all posted:TU:
Let me guess... the shipping guy grabbed the lower rad support with a hook and used it to winch the car up onto the trailer?
Thats what I thought too. The shipper probably didn't tell him it was a non running car and the driver got tick off, hooked up to the first thing he felt and pulled away. That stinks all the problem you had with shipping, I'm glad Bruno could hook you up and it got fixed. Did the shipper take responsibility and pony up some cash?
I gave the fire wall A quick spray of black semi-gloss. Looks better than it did but I'd like a more matte finish. Engine is ready for its new cam and related parts. Need my crew chief to get that done. I hope to be shifting into first by 9/15 if all goes easy. I will post when the engine is going in. Pizza, beer and friendship will be served to all who attend and help. I'll keep ya posted.
Funny you should mention the 340. . . I was excited to get the parts I bought a few weeks ago into the engine, so Jason Cook came by tonight and we were going to put in the cam and related parts. Got everything disassembled to pull the cam and we put the breaker bar on the crank to put the engine at TDC. Flipping engine won't budge. Pull the plugs, still won't move. Put a pipe on the breaker bar put my back into it. Nope!! Pull the head off, #8 is rusted! YOU GOT TO BE S#!tting ME! So now I need an engine. It's never easy man :ball:
Tony,I have a 72 350 if your interested. I'm in Riverhead, come get it no charge, still has the TH350 trans attached also. Guy pulled into a friends shop and wanted a chevy 350 in his Lark. Has to be cleaned up but the mechanic said it ran and sounded good. I took it off his hands just in case. Tom
:error:Tony was in denial about it for about 20 minutes. It finally sunk in. ou: I might have a line on a good running 350 tomorrow. I'll call you when I confirm.
That's a bummer!!!!! How badly rusted is it??? Any pics??? In the past I've cleaned the rust, got the piston to move & cleaned more rust, lubed it all up & drove the s--t out of it for years. Bummer, because it did run so well previuosly. Tom T.
You bet your bippy I'll take you up on that Tom! Let me at least bring you something to wash the good feelings down. I'll PM you. Thanks soooo much for your generosity. :beer
