Okay, time to set the record straight. If you want good pizza, you have to be in NYC. Hopefully some of my fellow new yorkers will back me up on this (I can't believe they haven't already). Sure there are places around the country with good pizza, but they can never compare to good NY slice. In fact, I'll even give you locations of my 3 favorite pizzarias:

J&V on 18th Ave and 65th St (Bensonhurst, Brooklyn two blocks away from the original Sbarros)
Sal's on Court St in Carrol Gardens
Patsy's under the Brooklyn Bridge (may have changed its name, really good gourmet Brick Oven)

I didn't care for that either. I found out later that they used a "sweetened" sauce on it, yech.

I've probably spent a couple thousand $$$ at taco bell over the past few years, quesadilla's are addictive! I even had taco bell tonight too yet. :Dou:

As for toppings, I loved pepperoni, tons of it as a kid. Now when I look at it with the little puddle of grease in the middle it grosses me out. We had this place called "Pizza Pit" and that was by far, no contest, the greasiest pizza in the world. I only had pizza there 2 times because of it. You could hold a piece vertical and grease would just pour off of it.

There was a place called "balistreries" (or something close to that jist) and they had pretty good pizza until they went out of business. The gimmick there was that the place was in the basement of a hotel so it was all underground and had pretty dark lighting so it was like you were hiding out while eating your pizza. Just put the shades on and disappear in the corner.

Let me put in my $.02. I have always heard about NY pizza. I have had some good pizza in my life and never thought twice about the saying. Now I will state for the record, you do not understand the saying until you have experienced. Moving to NY a little over 2 years ago changed my thoughts on pizza. Although we were not in the city, we had so many different pies from different places that just plain rocked !!! And the city ruled. We looked forward to finding another place to eat pizza at when we traveled down to the city.

If there is one thing I learned while living in NY, it is the New Yorkers love thier food, and pizza seemed to be thier pride. I can honestly say that NY pizza is the best. The mom and pop places are the best. Phooeeey pooeeey on the chains. Chain pizza is all the same junk. If it has to ba a chain, Papa Johns and Ci Ci's it the only ones that I will tolerate.

Pizza Hut... I'd rather eat the box.
for chain pizza, I like Papa Johns. It seems to be a love it or hate it type of thing. I'd rather have local pizza, if it's from the right place. I've had NY pizza, and it kills anything locally. I have yet to try good Chicago pizza, but that looks really good!

I agree, NY has the yummiest pizza I've ever had!! But my fav in Ohio is a chicken mariachi pizza (chicken, jalapeno's, tomatos, and mariachi spice sprinkled over top) from Donato's.....

    Pizza Hut!? AAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

My wife and I make our own pizza. My friend Steve is a veteran baker. Between us, we came up with a great Pizza dough recipe (it's all in the dough and the way you cook it) and we cook the pie (yes, pie, I'm from NJ :)) on the barbecue on quarry tiles at about 500 degrees.

I'ts awesome. I first barbecue sausages and then slice them myself to put on the pie, then I slice some pepperoni or some peppers and then crush fresh garlic....whatever your heart desires. It's delicious and more all natural and better for ya than the synthetic pizza hut pizza. Plus it FUN to make. Messy, but fun. :Smarty: :)

I forgot that we've got a papa johns and a papa murphy's (we make, you bake) as well. The papa john's was so-so, tasted the same as frozen pizza's from kwik-trip. The papa murphy's are pretty good and quite a bang for the buck as well, you can get this huge pizza that we always have leftovers after 5 people for like $7.

Noooooo, don't start ragging on domino's. It's their turn on our pizza rotation tonight. They're not bad at all in my book. Yea, they're probably not as good as a mom+pop pizzaria in new york but I'm a long way from new york.

AMEN BROTHER!!! :beer I just moved to California from New Jersey.............I've yet to find a good pizza, my wife who is originally from here tries to fill my void with all these "chain" pies  Nothing like a pie frm the NJ/NY area, my 2 favorites in NJ are Spirito's on 17th & High Sts in Elizabeth, NJ still made the same way from scratch by the same family since 1930 :) For a good thin crust pie, there's Pizzaland in No. Arlington, NJ on Schuyler (sky-ler) Ave. This place may sound famliar because they flash the place in the opening intro/credits of the show The Sopranos :) So there you have it!!! I have to agree people in NJ/NY take food very seriously and the Bakersfield folk here get a kick outta me.............a Filipino with a thick NJ accent :Brow: Fugeddabouit

I forgot to mention................when the PURE STOCK race was held over the weekend @ Raceway Park. I even suggested they hit Dusal's on Union Hill Rd after the race for a good pizza :)

You have not lived until you have had a pizza from Pizzeria Regina in the north end of Boston.

Opened in 1926, and they use a really hot coal fired oven. Best pizza anywhere.

I feel bad for all the folks who think Dominos or Pizza Hut is good.

I also think fast food sucks.....Flame away!

In the early to mid 80s those pizza chains tried tp move into the NJ/NY area.............and within a few years they're all gone................just a handful of Domino's and Pizza Huts left...............but I don't mind a pizza hut supreme once in awhile

  15. Best pizza shop is The Depot, a little bar in Ellicottville, NY.

I'm also a big big fan of Digorino cheese stuffed crust. Man is that tasty! Just keep the mushrooms off and I'm happy!

If we have an opportunity, it's Giordano's, Pizzeria Uno, or Lou M's. That's for the best pizza. Next is local places. Pizza Hut in a pinch. Never even tried Domino's or Papa John's or any of those other chains.

I can honestly say that we almost never get pizza out of state - Indiana or Wisconsin or Ohio. Just wouldn't be the same. We do have a large gathering in Kentland, IN when we go to the Midwest Challenge on Saturday night - about 50 folks go to the Monical's there. I always order pasta, though.

Stagecoach - what kind of sauce do you use? One of our club members owns one of the pizza sauce companies. Good stuff!

    Everybody has their favorite.

You're kidding! There is only one on the local store shelves and the name escapes me. I typically start with it and add things to it until its just right.

What is the name of the comany? :)

CHI town pizza... all the way. pizza and ribs and blues music. What else could you need?
local pizza, thicker crust (hand tossed) pepperoni and bannana peppers. yummie... all this food talk is makin' me hungry. u know it's hard to find good pizza in Milwaukee. pizza shuttle is a local chain and not too bad. there is a place called Zanya's thats good but crazy greasy. there is Oakland Tratoria, that has awesome open fire cooked pizza.

Pastorelli Pizza sauce. Usually the only canned sauce the store carries. They sell a lot to restaurants - nationwide!

I make a mean casserole with it. Yum!

When I make my own pizza, I start with canned tomato sauce, add oregano a little salt and a lil bit of pepper. It's simple and it's good.
