Boss 302's and Z-302's suffer the same "street problems" as street hemi's and Boss 429's. They just dont work below 4000 rpm's

Too much head, too much intake, too much cam... No "grunt" where it really counts on the street, but get 'em in the right environment [race track] and tuned properly, and they can shine!

Don Garlrets HATED the 426 hemi when it first came out for similar reasons. Only when they figured out how to properly tune it did they make real progress.

Well, since this IS "V8" Buick.com, and since I am a Buick owner...

What do I consider to be Overrated? :puzzled:

    GN's!

It's not a Musclecar in my opinion, either.

I LIKE THEM for the "cool" factor, but they're NOT "All That"! :Smarty:

In other words, if you like them enough to actually own one, that's your choice. Don't be mad at me for my opinion, here. I don't like cars made after '72, anyway, that's just me! :Smarty: :Do No:

I like them, but I just don't like them Enough to BUY one, and OWN one, myself! :Smarty:

I think that's the reason that I really can't stand them, though, is for the same reason we all can't stand Mustangs or Corvettes or Camaros; They all look ALIKE, and they're EVERYWHERE! :Do No:

I would prefer a 20th Anniversary '89 Turbo Trans Am over a Grand National, anyday! :Smarty: :bglasses: Might be the same engine, but I just can't get past the "box" car style of the Regals!

    LMAO, I agree too.

And I must say the GTO's are way overrated. I mean, sure a lot of people like them, but I can't like them. In my opinion, they are just like the big 3, a lot of people own them. In fact, it don't have to be a GTO, just plain pontiac in general. Don't hate me for it, but I just do not care much for any pontiac.

As for chevelles, mustangs, and most of the mopars are overrated as well. I like too many pre '88 american cars to list, but a lot of them are overrated. Oldsmobile and Buick were so underrated it was kind of pathetic. The "W-30" series cars were rare but definetly underrated, along with buick's whole lineup.

I could go on, but im leaving it at that. I would love to have any chevelle, old mustang, camaro, hemi or mopar, I love 'em, but I can't hide behind the fact that a lot of them were overrated.

Transplant a '68 to '72 A-body's front crossmember into the Chevy sounds reasonable. remember a few years back, when some Buick guys cut the crossmember up, deepened it, and made it possible to simply unbolt and remove the oilpan?

Go for it, '50s Chevies are cool rides. I'd rather see you in a '40 Ford with a Buick 455 though. It's what I'm doing if I ever get the chance :TU:

oh man, you're freakin psycho. GN's are quick cars for sure. I think of all the G-Body cars the Regal and GN were the best looking. And nothing can beat that all black look of a GN. now onlythe intercooled-turbo engines were worth much in my opinion, the hot air cars are kinda slow in comparison it seems. 14's as opposed to 13's in the quarter. now what's so cool about the GN is a few mods here and there and it's a 12 second car easily. muscle car? well.. i'd say it was the last of the muscle cars. after the GN most cars went to front wheel drive.

My opinion is anyone that took an regular everyday A-Body and stuck a big motor in it and now thinks they own a muscle car is delusional. :puzzled:

So if the factory does it, its a muscle car, but if Johnny hot-rodder does the exact same thing in his garage, its not???????????

What if someone started with a small block muscle car, like a W-31 olds, and put a 455 where the 350 had been??????

Would you care to take a short ride in my 550 cid [stroked 500 caddy, 750-800 hp.] 1970 skylark that originally had a 350,,, say about 1/4 mile long,, should not take much longer than about 10.23@127mph to change your opinion.

I don't believe the only thing that has been stroked here is your 500 caddy "Professor". LMAO!!!

I thought the purpose of this thread was to express our opinions. Not told our opinions are invalid and to STFU about them.

Wasn't that a 87 option only, was never over rated just banned and pulled from the market as they snuck it past the EPA. So it had a rep as bad, but not in the good way.

    BuickBuddy-
Perhapse you are correct. In hind-sight, maybe I did respond to your post a little on the "confrontational" side. Maybe I should have said it this way...

"I [strongly] feel I have to dis-agree with you on that one. I mean if the factory puts a BB into an A-body, it's a Muscle car, but if Johnny hot-rodder does the exact same thing in his garage, its not???????????

What if someone started with a small block muscle car, like a W-31 olds, and put a 455 where the 350 had been? Like maybe in the case of the [factory?] Hurst olds from 68???

Maybe I could change your mind if you care to take a short ride in my 550 cid [stroked 500 caddy, 750-800 hp.] 1970 skylark that originally had a 350,,, say about 1/4 mile long,, should not take much longer than about 10.23@127mph....."

Now then... I hope my changing a few words around and putting a smiley face at the end of my statement have served to ease your hurt feelings. Having said that however, maybe you could take a moment to offer ammends for some of the harsh words you have sent my way... Maybe not just mine, but the others you have blasted in the previous posts about Buickland.

Maybe you could take a moment to put your [real] name in your signature... Or just maybe you could add something constructive to us here on V8Buick, instead of spewing insults whenever you dis-agree with someone else.

Since you have such strong feelings about what does or does not constitute a muscle car, maybe you could offer some technical assistance to those who post with questions about how to tune or repair their muscle cars, or street cars, or grocery getters.... That is if you can find time in your busy schedule to put your rotten attitude aside for just a few moments.

To put it another way, if you cant play nice here, go play somewhere else!

Ugh you said it brother! Yep they have the BIGGEST myth about being powerful. Not that they aren't pretty fast, but sheesh talking to a chevy guy there might as well be nothing else on the planet!

P.S. If you want to see me go into convulsions just mention the word chevy 350 or 383 stroker.

You are 100% correct. I love my GS's but the turbo cars are by far the best bang for the buck. The GN is the last Musclecar per say. Overrated, no way I had 2 turbo cars and they were both great cars. Man did I ever tan some hides with those cars.

I remember when the V6 GN hit and lots of people were put off as it wasn't a V8.
Even though it was so fast, it made the future look scary. I even questioned the engine change. Now I just wonder, why not sooner? That could of saved the muscle car era if we had small dis motor that could haul.
