I'll be running Mobil1 with the next oil change. ZDDPlus as well. Even the synthetics need the zinc & phosphorus, and their levels have been lowered like the other stuff off the shelf.

    So two updates today.

Last night was street legal drags at sacramento. So I did the testing between the holley

With the Q-jet and 3.73's best run was 13.8 at 97.4 mph
The 850 double pumper and 3.73's was 13.76 at 99.2mph

I did not take the 4.10 axle with me to the track this was sort of a last minute thing.I launched at 3k and shifted at 6k all night I pretty much stayed in the high 13's lost to a stock ws6 a stock challeneger and a few cobra's and notchback 5.0s

So there is a bit of difference between the Lunati 67003 and the comp 268h I am running now.

Second update I got the lunati cam in today with new lifters.I will not be installing it until I get some more money so I can get marks rocker conversion and decide if I want to try a bigger cam instead of going back to the lunati. Also on the way home whenever I slowed to a stop I heard a ticking sound I think it might be an exahust leak but I will take a look sometime today or tommorrow and keep you guys posted. One last thing my engine was running abnormally hot last night I have no idea why it sat at 210 the whole night and got up to 220 after the 45 mile drive home.

Well long post Im exhausted.Take care my Buick brothers I am goign to sleep Russ:TU: :3gears:

Interesting how you were about 1 full second quicker with the Lunati cam vs the 268 cam....

I really do hope you get the heads ported while you add a new cam and the roller rockers. This way you will not have to take it appart again soon to upgrade again.

I have a theory on your overheating, I bet the air fuel ratio on the Holley is off and this can cause overheating.

If you took out two lobes off the cam you should pull the motor. The first place all the metal from your cam and lifters is going is into the piston skirts. It will creat and abrasive sluge and kill your cylinders. Running metal throw it dose not do your bearings any favors either. Good luck with your motor

sean you are probably right I didnt do any jetting or anything to the holley just slapped it on and got it to idle..

Here are the differences between the cams if anyone is interseted.

    Lunati 67003:
    Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 268/276
    Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 227/233
    Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .505/.521
    LSA/ICL: 110/106
    RPM Range: 2000-6000

    Comp Cams:
    Advertised Duration (Int/Exh):268/268
    Duration @.050 (Int/Exh):218/218
    Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh).469/.469
    LSA/ICL: 110/106

I still shifted at 6k.I had to change the driver side header gasket today still running kinda hot with the Q-jet back on.Next wednesday Ill make sure to take the 4.10 rear up there with me.

Buick racer Ill probably pull the heads this weekend again to give another look over I dropped the pan and I didnt see any shavings down there but Hell might as well make sure.Take care guys Russ

You are mistaken. Smokey Yunick talked about the issue way before then.

"The legendary Smokey Yunick wrote that his solution to the problem was to buy multiple camshafts and simply try them in a slave engine until he found one that survived break-in without scuffing."

IMO buy a Roller and be done with it. As the saying goes, "if you didn't have enough money to do it right the first time, where are you going to find the money to do it right the second time".

I am getting somewhat nervous now. I just had my 350 rebuilt with the Lunati cam being discussed here. I do plan on running Brad Penn Racing oil the life of the motor however. Hopefully nothing turns to shavings...

You better use some ZDDP additive. Another board member lost this same cam after he stopped using ZDDPlus in Brad Penn oil.

The year my dad went to Engine Masters they used Royal Purple in the engine and after the first few pulls the engine burned up, we dont trust the stuff.

There was a major lifter problem several years ago when flat tappet manufacturing trailed off and left the country, if I recall correctly.
