Heck. I got some myself and never thought they were valuable. I was getting ready to drill a hole in a used one and attach it to a key chain.

I just wonder who was that stupid to spend that kind of money on something like that. Maybe he is a rich oil tycoon and didn't care.

I wonder if he told his wife how much that little part cost him?:Brow:

    HMM!

I think they both are real! But what do I know, this is a new experience for all of us, on the other hand, probably the left one is real, or I was right with the first guess, whatever, Let me know, as I have no clue, and if isn't obvious, I could care less, as some day my GSX will live the dream of being a driver, purestock racer and kick ass show car especially being the #14th GSX built!, with some hope, someday the time will come and soon! Guys,
The one on the left is the real one. The "BY BUICK" is bold, and the edges on the G,S, & X are nice and crisp.
The one on the right is either a reproduction or a replated original. I am leaning towards a repro, due to how the "BY BUICK" looks, but it is hard to tell without seeing it in person.

First off, I'm not a rich oil tycoon...more like a struggling entrepreneur. I am quite pleased with my purchase though:). I would have paid more and in fact, my bid was in for much higher. BTW, I did tell my wife what it cost...it was my birthday present to myself. Of course I would have bought it even if it wasn't my birthday. I've been looking for an NOS Grille emblem for my car for 17 years and probably missed about 8-10 of them over the years at swap meets, private sales, etc. In all that time (yes, back when 70 grilles were $95), I've personally never seen one that went for less than $500, so in this day and age, I think I got a deal at $595. Heck, I kept my $500 in the bank for all those years! Plus, I got the original receipt from when the guy bought it in '76 (yes, it's real). I tried to buy Bill's for years and he wouldn't part (no pun intended) with it for any price. 71's are much easier to come by...I've had 2 and sold one of them. As for the picture of the two emblems posted, I'd put my used emblem on the car before I'd put the one on the right. Duane is right...It's a no-brianer from several feet away.

    Dano,
Congratulations on the purchase of the needle in the haystack. The differences between an original and a repro wouldn't matter so much if it was somewhere else. But, with it being on the front of the car so everyone can point to it (not that anyone would) it makes it tougher to deal with.

Dano, no offense intended when I said "rich oil tycoon". I never would have noticed, even if staring at it head on until I saw the 2 of them next to each other in the picture. The biggest difference I see is the "K" in Buick. Don't ever let criticizm get you down, it will only ruin things for you. There were imperfections on these cars when they were brand new. Just go and enjoy your car!

    :3gears:

I'm glad you found what you were looking for.:)

I was the seller, and like Dano said it is real, I bought it in 1976 and stored it in a dark, dry place all these years. I hope to use this money and some more to buy some used Iron Stage 2 heads that apparently cost $200/pair when new, now I'm offering $2,300 if someone has a good used set. Dano has promised to send me a picture of his GSX when its done. You can bet that it will be a 100% GM authentic car!

No offense taken...If I let things get me down, I'd have never gone into business or at least wouldn't still be here beating my head against the wall. I have almost every conceivable NOS part for the car, which is basically an all original basket case. The emblem was always the elusive piece. I'm going to start the resto this summer (I'm sure I'll be calling you Duane).

    A 10 10 or QQ ?

An auto or 4 speed ?

    Stage 1 or non Stage?

Any chance you could post us a pic? I would rather see a basket case or resto in progress than a finished car.
