What is the seller saying? Is he actually going to sell the item, or does he just want to see how high the bidding will get? Or is this just a parts wanted advertisment? "I aquired this in the mid 1970's as a general interest item for the Stage One, 4 speed with air conditioning non-GSX car I aquired from the original local owner in 1976 (I still have the car, with 40k miles on it, all original, including paint). I am going to see what the auction market says about the value of the emblem. If a bidder contacts me with a good solid lead on where I can purchase at a fair price a magnifluxed , good set of Buick cast iron Stage 2 heads and Kustom headers, I will end the auction early to sell the item to him at his fair bid price. "
Brent unless someone can explain to me otherwise, the repros I have seen are nicer than the NOS which if they were ever nicer have suffered from the effects of aging.
Good question... I don't really know what the seller is saying. eBay never ceases to amaze me, it really doesn't! Is he selling or what?? Jim, I wouldn't know about the repros but I'll take your word for it. I know I'll never own an "X" anyway....at least not in this lifetime...
Re: Good question... That has been my experience with all types of NOS emblems . They age on the shelf. I did a little experiment with an OLDs vendor who carried both. We started opening repros and NOS examples of the same emblem and looking at them heads up. The repros were consistently better in quality on both chrome and paint.
Jim, I agree with you about all the other emblems, but the GSX reproduction emblems are the exception. The black field under the BY BUICK is wavy on the repros, (looks terrible) but is flat on the originals and the mounting studs are shorter. This makes it hard to install them correctly. You can easily tell them apart from a few feet away. Duane
I just went out to the garage and tried to take a photo in the freezing cold like an idiot  I can't tell the difference without a repro to look at next to an original.
Hey Duane, Have you ever gave thought to reproducing a correct GSX Grill Emblem?I had a Repo 71 GSX Grill Emblem at one time,i thought the mounting studs on the back were very weak & cheap looking. Also they were not threaded, shouldn't there be threads for the stud nuts?Or am i NUTS?o No:
Jeff, No, I never wanted to repop a GSX Grill emblem. Not my type of part. The studs are long and thin on these and the threads get cut in when the pal nuts are installed. Also, every year emblem is different, with the 72 originals having an alignment plate that fits behind the grill. Duane
Also, there could only be a few hundred GSX cars max left. How many need an emblem or if they did would buy? Very few I would guess.
Casting Numbers 70 NOS GSX Grille emblem 1235(3 0r 8)17 also stamped GENERAL, very light stamping 71 NOS GSX Grille emblem 1237097 also stamped GENERAL and detroit Both are pot metal and no threads on studs. The 71 GSX emblem is for sale , email me . Bill
Looks like i am nuts!Didn't realize the pal nut cut the thread into the virgin stud.ou: The studs on the 71 GSX repop i had still looked rather weak & cheap. :bglasses:
About a year ago ,someone had 2 NOS 70 GSX grille emblems on one auction. Bidding stopped at just over $700. I'd say this one will top $500. Bill
Bill, If you're correct, it's safe to say it's halfway there.... As much as I'd love to own a GSX, I'd really hate to have to restore one...:ball: :ball:
