Irresponsible reporting doesn't begin to cover it! :af:

People have died because of the story Newsweek ran about an alleged incident concerning flushing the Koran down a toilet

Whatever happened to considering your actions? Whatever happened to weighing the consequences of those actions? Whatever happened to common sense?

You stupid arrogant b@stards. You Bob Woodward wannabee jack@sses. Congratulations, you've damaged US- Muslim relations AND managed to off a few people, PLUS there's the chance (keep your fingers crossed!) that maybe hundreds or even THOUSANDS more can die because you're fanning the flames of hatred. Way to go, I hope you sold a couple extra copies of your crummy rag in exchange for all the death and unrest, I hope the bottom line was worth it, don't gimme that "We honor the truth" bullsh*t, your self-serving ideals of convenience don't impress or fool me :af:

They have reported that a source says that in Gitmo, at least in one incident, a copy of the Koran was flushed down a toilet. This was on the 9th? I think that's when it was reported

Now there are protests, deaths, and threats of more violence, from people who hardly even have the full story. And of course it's always "The Americans" who have defiled anything. I'm not even going to get into the middle eastern mindset here

First of all, I hardly think a Koran would fit down a toilet. Second, the editors, if they don't understand what a story like that could do, shouldn't be the editors, because they have responsibility above and beyond "truth" (this is still just an alleged report from 'a source'), they have a responsibilty with how they present and report on 'facts' and how they represent both sides of a story. THAT BS started in the '70s, when journalism got confused with "the story" and how important "the story" was to the reporter, and incidentally, the reporter's fame, ego, and check book, and of course, "the story" must be told in the name of "thr truth". What BS. "The truth" my @ss, it's "the truth" from the reporter's personal standpoint. Ooooo, there's not enough nooses and sour apple trees in the nation to satisfy me right now. "Freedom of the Press" is great, I support it. How about holding the Free Press to a couple standards now and again? :af:

    I agree completely Chris.

The mainstream media (MSM) since around the Vietnam war has actively tried to undermine anything and everything regarding this country. Political and idealogical agendas drive these outlets. Now we are seeing news agencies like CBS, and Newsweek making stories up and using the "Fake but real" defense. We saw this with the fake Bush military docs right before the election. :Dou: Thats why I don't even bother with the MSM anymore. Newsblogs give you the full story good and bad, and blogs are alot more entertaining as people are allowed to post comments.

A perfect example of MSM having a political/ idealogical agend. How much have we heard about Operation Matador? This has been one of the most succesful terrorist sweeps in Iraq and there is now word that the head head chopper Zarqawi(sp) may have been iced in the battle, and most news sources havent given any of this a mention, yet an unsubstantiated accusation of the flushing of a Koran down a toilet is HUGE news. Who needs proof, just run the story anyway, and if its proven false they'll just put a fine print blurb of it in the corrections department. :af: :spank: :blast:

Well, I'm thinking more along the lines of what the US press reports about the US Government, and why, than what a man like MCCarthy did. I'm particularly thinking about reports about what the CIA did using Navy resources in the '70s and '80s, when Press ethics went out the window in return for 'the story', back when we were in real danger of losing a lot, due to US spies working for the USSR, guys who betrayed their countries for a few hundred grand, and we needed intelligence on the Soviets more than ever. A few leaked newspaper storied to make good headlines...and suddenly the Soviet ballistic missile subs being shadowed by US subs go berserk, as if on cue. No coincidence it was hours after the story was released.

No conscience. If a sub crew had to die to make that story, then the attitude was " RIP, I got my story and you were jerks for doing what you were doing anyway." Petty power trips embarked on by the underinformed, to promote their own political viewpoints- at the risk of American lives in the short term, and Nuclear War in th long term. I can't see a difference in the unethical and careless reporting of that era, and what I'm seeing now. It disgusts and alarms me.

I have read that Newsweek/Time magazine companies are Israeli owned which would explain the type of news stories that they print.

Liberal news magazine's just plain suck! Our local paper is equally liberal. All kinda reports on the bad. No bright sides. Our soldiers come back fulla stories about Iraqs who are incredibly thankful for what they have done. But the liberal media just doesn't see that as news. Alledged koran incident?!?! Flush a Christian bible and watch our media defend the toilet!!!

Hey Junkman, Newsweek is published by the Washington Post Corp (ticker symbel WPO), whose largest shareholder is Berkshire Hathaway (i.e. Warren Buffet), who has nothing to do with Israel.

I don't know where your getting your reading info, but Newsweek is owned by The Washington Post Company, which has been an American owned and controlled company since it's inception in 1875.

Time Magazine is owned by Time Warner which has also been an American owned company since the beginning (read early 1900s)

I'm a bit confused with your statement. How would a company being Isreali owned explain the types of stories that the MSM print? :Do No:

Flushing a bible down a toilet has nowhere near the impact on Christians that descrating a quran has on Muslims.

That's because the printing of qurans is a very tightly controlled process and each book is considered "living and sacred" to all Muslims. The book is considered God's words with a kind of life of its own. Worn-out qurans are generally destroyed with great respect and ritual. I was surprised when I read about this a few months ago. They have a totally different way of viewing their holy book.

So, yes, talk of disrepecting a "living embodiment of Allah's words" will surely set off riots among Muslims. Wonder how informed the editors were when they decided to drop that bomb?

    GoldBoattail455 462 -> TH400 -> Posi

The news sucks these days. They never EVER focus on anything that is positive! It always has to be this person died, or this crash happened. The war in Iraq seems horrible because all we hear of is the bad things going on. And if we even hear a little bit of positive news, they always stomp all over it. The news today just plain sucks.
