    I am running the same engine. A 1973 455.
I have speed pro pistons the high compression ones.
    .040 over .032 in hole.
Was using felpro 1125 head gaskets.
73 heads. Stock valves which were in great shape.
All crossover holes for choke n egr drilled tapped and plugged.
The heads received a top notch bowl port job.
That is where the power is.
They were necked down considerably by the factory choking them.
Edelbrock performer and a few different qjets.
Have a new one from Mark I will test soon.
    Comp 278 extreme energy cam.
13” vacuum@1000. Power brakes work great.
Will be playing w ignition to find sweet spot for idle and performance.
Pistons deep in hole from what I now understand here can cause detonation.
So trying to find right thin head gasket from TA/ cosmetic.

Just found a block deck hight calculator with my pistons 1.997 compression height 6.6 in rod 3.9 stroke factory block deck at 10.57 leaves me 20 In the hole. I have to deck the block and heads block need .005 heads need min .012 so when I put it all in a static compression Calc with the ta orange crush gasket it comes out to9.99 to 1 with a .053 piston to head clearance. Better than what I thought . With the ported heads and a ta 212 cam get at least 520 torque and 400 hp ?

No need for the expensive orange crush gasket,..felpro blues be more than fine, that's a good bit of comp for a small cam cyl psi may be too high

X2, the 212 and Stage1 cams will get you close to Race Gas territory. If we use 68cc as the combustion chamber, .020 in the hole, and 22.5cc dish, we get 10:1 SCR.

    The 212 DCR,

    And the Stage1,

8.4 is the theoretical limit. That's too close for comfort IMHO.

TA284-88H, yes. Go to the TA Performance site and download a pdf of the current catalog. You can read up on the cam descriptions.

Yes, 7.84 DCR is what my engine runs at. It easily runs on pump gas as I have aluminum heads as well. Mix in some race gas at the track for cheap insurance against detonation. I advise you to do the same if you do run it.

Yes, I can see them. These are pictures of my TA Stage1SE aluminum heads, ported first by Greg Gessler, then Tri Shield Performance,

Hard to beat the aluminum heads for flow. You do need to run more compression with them because the transfer heat faster. I have 10.5:1 SCR.
