Well here is an update on how well my day went. The painter finally called me back today to tell me he would only be able to give me 2500 back and I could take it some place else. So I have been trying to be patient but at this point my patients is running out so I reminded him of all the things he said he would do and didn't. I get the you didn't pay for a show paint job coment. I said no I payed for a quality paint job which we can both agree looks like sh--. So I tell him I'm not unreasonable and i will walk away for 3000 and call it what it is a sh--ty paint job. He told me he would let me know at the end of the day and if i didn't hear from him this afternoon to call him. so I waited untill 4:00. no call. so I try to call him, his phone is busy so I try back at 4:30 no answer try other # at 5:00 and was told by the guy that works there he left 20 min ago. To top it all off some dead beat out of spain stole my identy and drained my acct. had to go to the bank and get that taken care of. Great:af:
I would tell him that your lawyer fees would cost him much more than the money you want to walk away with
take the 2500.00 dollars, have your car fixed by someone else and move on. the guy is trying to avoid you. pursue it further and you might end up in court, you never know how a judge is gonna rule.
I think he owes you the whole amount.. definitely contact BBB about Mr. Perfect Camaro. He damaged your car - gave you a sh*tty backyard paint job and drilled holes in the car without permission. I'd consult an attorney on this before negotiating a lesser amount; it may come down to you having no choice, but it's worth a shot. Everything is on paper? He owes you big, man..
Josh; Man I feel for you. I would say if the whole getting a lawyer thing is going to take longer and may cost you more money than the "difference" than take what you can and go. If this guy is having financial troubles, take anything you can get now.. something is better than nothing. I would sure make sure everyone you meet know the story and knows who to stay away from. John
Larry, it sure looks like that shop did a nice job on your Rivi. Josh, where are you at with Mr. Perfect Camaro?
Now I am going to have nightmares:eek2: I can understand the cracks in the paint, stuff happens and its not always the body shops fault. What I cannot understand are those panel gaps, the holes in your decklid, the overspray on the underside of the hood, the consistent orange peel texture and the audacity to say "take it somewhere else here's less than a quarter of what you just payed me" My car has a crappy paint job (well at least the back clip, the hood and the fenders is all Buick:TU It is obviously a macco job and there was no prep into it but it still has no orange peels and no cracks. I really hope things get sorted out with this because you have an awesome car and I love the color choice!
Well Guys I filed a claim with the attorney general's office and they sent me a letter to set up an appointment for a mediation. So I called them yesterday and set up an appointment for the 23. They are sending him a letter requesting his presence. If he does not respond or he declined then it goes back to attorney general for the next step. I just hope I don't see him between now and then but tomorrow is the big down town cruise Topeka so I might run into him tomorrow. The car is sitting on air ride so I can adjust the ride height for what ever my mood is but I like to be able to drop her on the ground when parked. Josh
It is a real shame that you had to go to the authorities. Hopefully they will be most helpful! Why do you no longer want to see Mr. Perfect Camaro? Have things eroded since the last time you mentioned him to us? Good luck!
He won't call me back and he does not answer the phone. I think he is scared. I plan on doing some free advertising for him when this is settled
Well hear is the update. He would not go to mediation. So my claim went back to attorney generals office and they sent me a letter saying I would be better served with private counsel. I called an attorney and he said I would be better off taking him to small claims and that in Kansas the small claims max out at $20,000. So I guess this is going to be my next move. Or:blast:
wow... 20k in small claims? sounds like the way to go. get lots of pictures before meeting in small claims. see if you can take or get pictures of his other work as you were expecting better work as well. Enjoy every car show advertising his work as well. Maybe leave a donations jar on the radiator cover.
wow.all i can say is WOW. as someone who had there ride recently painted, i can relate FULLY on the long hours of prep it takes to get a car right. mine was a outright mess when we started. rust, dents, 4 layers of old ass primer plus a coat of dp to strip down. i had just over a grand in materials, an the maroon was a freebee, to boot. we had over 100 hrs plus of documented time, an im sure there many more. lots of 3 am nites involved. seems to me he crapped out on the prep work. hope it all works out bro.
