Hi, I'm getting ready to cut a hood and install a Stage 2 scoop. I was just wondering if someone could run out to their garage and measure where their scoop is sitting on their hood.

I'm looking for the measurement from the back of the hood to the back of the scoop. I see that the scoop needs to be as far back as possible becuase it slopes down in the back. Just want to verify my placement before I start cutting. Thanks.

    Getting ready for Norwalk/Quaker.

I've got a template.(The drop from cutting in 2 of these scoops).
I believe mine is 34" from the front of the hood to the front of the scoop.
Let me know if you'd like to use this template.
OR.............Do the long carb stud trick.

    Phil,
Ever get a roll bar in that beast? You may get tech'd at Quaker! Be a shame if they didn't let you run.

www.vfnfiberglass.com then go to catalog then to Buick then to 70-72 cars and then at the bottom the have the measurements of the hood scoop. However I think Poston has them for cheaper.

Hey Kenny, I'm interested in going that route-- I have a few questions: Did they cut the hole in the hood as well? (dumb question, I suppose) I've seen the catalog-- I suppose you paid for the hood+scoop, how about for installing the scoop??

    Thanks......:TU:

    Dan,
That's not a dumb question at all! Actually I gave them the dimensions on where to install the scoop on the hood.My big mistake was having them cut out the whole dimension under the scoop the same size.
If I were to do it over,I would just have them mold the scoop on and cut the hole under it myself, after test fitting it on the car.
What i ended up with was a huge whole that made it a little harder to "seal" the carb to the hood.
I did accomplish the sealing part, but had to use a roughly 2 Ft.square of sheet metal riveted to a carb.filter base, cut the inside out to fit over the carb and then get some 4"X 4" foam to mount on the base.It looks kind of odd, but,it sure works!!:Smarty:

    Phil,

I did the same several years ago. I have the B4B intake which places the carb back farther I think, anyway front of hood to scoop is 34 and back of hood to back to scoop is 12 . I did the long carb stud trick also and cut the hood out around the support frame because I didn't want to cut out the support structure. Attached are some pictures of it including the carb pan I am making out of aluminum sheet metal. The carb pan is small but will fit a 9" filter. I plan on using the K&N type with the filter lid to help increase the flow. Hope this helps.

    Ken,

Those photos appear to point to a place on your hard drive, which of course means there's nothing for us to see.

    Ken,
Those are nice photos of your fabrication of your scoop!!
Before anyone asks,My hood is undergoing a facelift at my painters shop at the moment.I can't post any pictures till I get it back some time next month?
I do have a question for you Ken,what and where did you get that material that you use to seal the hood??
The stuff I am using now is like foam rubber,I did wrap some vinyl tape all the way around it to help stand up to the elements but there must be something more dependable?:Do No:
I would appreciate anyones opinion on this,Thanks:TU:

I don't like the look of airpans either.....
My solution was to make mine out of clear LEXAN.(plexi-glass would be fine too).
The I attached the foam to the underside of the hood instead of the pan.
Just glue in place with 3M weatherstrip adhesive.
It actually looks good/clean with the hood off.

How timely! Santa just dropped off my Postons Stage II scoop. I will be mounting it to my stock steel hood that already has a dimple from the carb stud :Dou:

I have a 14" K&N with the ventilated lid. The current air cleaner touches (just enough to rub off the paint) the underside of the hood/braces. I had hoped to cut a hole big enough to keep the 14" air cleaner, but after seeing how it looks when you cut just inside the braces I may change my mind. That green hood setup looks nice!

GS Kubisch, the plexiglass/lexan looks trick too, but what kind of air cleaner do you run?

Looking forward to some ram air! :)
