I've always liked AMC cars- someday I'll own one. My step dad's buddy has a "supposed" '70 Mark Donahue Javelin. The guy swears it is, but as I've heard, it's next to impossible to get it documented if you don't have paperwork. I've never actually seen it, but from what I've heard, It has all the right equipment: 390, 4 speed, spoiler, etc. Thing must be rusty by now, I think it's sitting in his own personal "junkyard" hidden away in the woods up north somewhere . . .
That is very cool, how about some under hood shot's? Not ony did I grow up around buicks but, I know I will take flack for this  But also got to see and ride in some 304 to 401 swaps in Gremlins with three speed sticks to boot. It was a easy swap and made for a light fast little car. Chris
Very nice car.:TU: I like the amc alot myself. Buicks, AMC you just dont see very many at show's and cruise's. I guess that's just one of the reasons I like buick muscle cars so much.
wow! back in about 1978 or 79 i worked for a Pontiac dealership in Wadsworth Ohio that brought one of these up from the south . it was incredibly clean and had a aftermarket intake and headers installed with the original parts in the trunk. i had a sale order written on the car for $3,200 on a Thursday night and he gave me one week to come up with the money. some guy came in with the cash on Saturday and the money talked. wonder if this could be the same car? anyway great car hope we wind up at the same show some day so i can see it
Back in the 60's and 70's my family (moms side) owned an AMC dealerhip and I remember when these cars were delivered to the showroom. I was only about 8 years old watching the delivery guys pull them off the truck brand new. The Hurst SC Ramblers (I think thats what they were called) with the factory functional hoodscoop and 390 4 speeds were real nice with the similar paint scheme. I haven't seen one of these Machines in a very long time but it brings back some great memories. Good luck with it! Mike Iggycat NJ
In the mid 70s up in Rhode Island a friend had one (4spd, black Rebel (Mean)Machine). It had ported heads (by Eddie St. Angelo) and gears, etc.. Was considered one of if not the fastest thing in town...... The joke was that on the 1-2 shift it would empty your beer bottle...... :3gears: :beer
That's a great looking Machine! About the closest I'll ever get to one of those is my recently purchased vintage Johan model kit, so I'll have to do it in scale! But if anyone is interested here's a full scale one that has turned up for sale in Ontario on KIJIJI, which is similar to a craigslist posting.... http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-cars-1970-AMC-Rebel-Machine-W0QQAdIdZ177143066
Thanks, I will post the ad you found for the automatic Machine on the AMC websites...these things are like hens teeth, especially if they are in good shape.
Congrats Mike, very nice!:beers2: You seem to find some real nice cars. Good luck with her.:TU: :Smarty:
many people will say a orginial even thought its been restored, meaning all stock, and restored as close to factory as possible. when i here someone say original thats what i think until they tell me its never been touched. love that car, next car on my list would be amx. theres a guy in my town with a rebel thats a wonderful restored originial example.
Mike that car is sick. It's definatly on my list of cars to own. I've never seen one of those cars in person, and I do a ton of car shows.I'v seen more superbirds popping up than these things. Very nice car.:TU: :TU:
There's one for sale on Hemming's right now...a 23,000 mile original, but buyer beware, it is a 4-speed, but was ORIGINALLY an automatic! They are asking $40,000. Wouldn't be a bad deal, if it was truly an original 4-speed. http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/amc/rebel/1012217.html Also note, it has headers, which are a BIG detractor in terms of value, the original "Machine" exhaust manifolds are unique to the Machine only, and are larger diameter...VERY expensive, IF you can find them. Same goes for the intake, it was a Machine only piece as well. Fortunately mine has the original intake and exhaust manifolds on it.
I saw this one last week on my lunch hour. I think the price is because of the extra low miles + excellent original paint/interior. This is one of the few honest dealers around. I've bought from him before and will do so again when the right car comes along. http://www.memorylanemotors.net/pics.php?id=194 The same dealer also has this 69 Ramber SC Hurst: http://www.memorylanemotors.net/pics.php?id=195
Well, here's a quote about the car from the previous owner; "It did have patches in the rear quaters in front of the wheels. Some rust repair to the inner rockers. I had one side redone and one of John Newels stripe kits put on. The rest of the stripes were still original. Original auto converted to 4 speed." So, as it appears, the dealer is leaving out some pretty pertinent information. On these cars, the VIN not only tells you that it is a Rebel Machine, but also whether it was a 4-speed or an automatic (this is one GREAT thing about these cars...motor and tranny designation in the VIN!). I'm glad your experience with this dealer was good, or perhaps you just got lucky...either way, CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!
