That's a great engine you got there. I love what you did to the valve covers. I want my stockers chromed also. Could you tell my how much it cost to have yours plated?

I wish you were going as well, I would like to finally meet you. I will keep an eye out for the Motor home and the blue car. BTW, you have confused me about my cam. Maybe you could explain it to me. The base numbers I can compare to other cams, it is the adjusted numbers that have me a bit dizy. I just hope it will be mild enough to run my power steering and power brakes. I will know that, very soon!:Brow: Thanks again for all your help, on both of my set ups. We will have to shake hands and hoist a few in person one day!

    Regards, John.:TU:

Thank you for your kind words. I had no issues with the 3.64 and my 28 inch tall tires. I did not drive it a whole lot on the highway. Maybe an hour at a time tops. It would run 3000 rpm at about 70 mph. (Give or take) It did not bother me to run it at that rpm. I wish they made a 3.64, for an 8.5 10 bolt, which is what I am switching to. I will be running a 3.73 then, I will let you know what I think. Eventually, when I can recover from the cost of my engine, I will either put a 2004R in there, or a gear vendors overdrive.

    Regards, John.

They are Stage 1 factory repros. I bought them from T/A Performance, with all the hardware, for under $150 I believe. They are correct for a 1970 GS Stage 1 car. I hope this helps.

    ok.

definitely wont be driving my car on the highway for anywhere near an hour (straight anyway).

i guess i will just go with the 3.70's, i think i can stand a little over 3 for awhile.

    thanks

    alec296 i need another buick

dont be afraid of 3.42 gears with that engine
a low gearset in a 400 can do wonders.
what track will you be hitting with that

    Andy,

If the question was intended for me, I will be headed for Great Lakes, in Union Grove, WI. About 35 minutes north of my home. If I get the bugs worked out and can get someone to haul my car, I would love to go to the B.O.P. race at Cordova, in September.

    Eric,

That is a good idea. I will try to get it done. When I have something to post, I will ask for suggestions on how to post it. It will be on an old high 8 format video camera. I am sure I can get it transfered to disk and then to where ever it needs to go.

    Regards, John.:)

    Eric,

I hope it runs as well as the '84 Regal in your signature! That is what I am shooting for.

    Regards, John.

JOHN,That car had more potental but didnt have the time to invest in it.. I wish i had a tighter converter the 3800 stall was great for 60 ft times but on the top end i think was slipping to much therefore the mph was low it should have bin 11.50S @ 115-116. Good luck with your new engine :TU:

    WOW!!!

    Thanks for the pics John.
And I am very proud of him. That's the first time I've seen him since he moved to AZ in December. He said the car was really sweet and from those pics it appears like an understatement.

Hey, guys and gals, spend as much time as you can with your kids while you can, cuz they grow up way to fast!!

Thanks again John, and I hope we can meet someday. :TU:

    Congrats John,

I'm new to THIS section of the forum but not for long!

Looks like you ready to have a blast!!! In a few months I hope to be as excited.

I just shipped a 455 off to AM&P for one of their Street 2 builds. I also ordered a rear from JD Race and Restoration 8.5 inch 3.42 Posi.

Great numbers from your dyno pull. Alan (as always) points out good things to remember. I want to do as much as possible but $$$ and my newborn are a limiting factor.

    Loved the pictures!!!

    Thanks Scotty,

I hope to be able to spend at least the better part of the day on Friday, getting things put back together. My wife is not pleased as it is, with the parts of weekends I have been gone. You know the build, and last week the Nationals, but I must get it finished. I need to get it fired up, the rear end will have to wait another week or so. Thanks for your interest.

    Regards, John.:TU:

Hey John, Did you go with a new set of lifters ?? or cam and lifters

  19. Johnny Angel

    Johnny Angel Well-Known Member

    No Eric,

They are the same cam and lifters it left "Wildcat" with. I was a bit misinformed about its actual numbers, while it was being built. They were close, but not correct. I just wanted to be as honest and as upfront as I could be. I hope I have answered you question. I am hoping to hear it run thru the mufflers and take it for a drive this weekend. Then next week start on switching the rear end. I have to start moving faster, but not careless fast. Wish me luck, I'm gonna need it.

    Regards, John.

I am sorry to say, that I did not get very far today. Spent the better part of the day repairing the wiring harness. When push came to shove, we did not feel comfortable with the shape of the starter wires, that lead us to unwrap the harness, almost to the firewall, fixing dead ends, shoddy splices, and bare wires! This detour took the better part of the day, but the starter is in and cranks and the wiring is repaired, per one exception. Someone at one time must have cut two of the heaver hot wires in the harness, that run along the intake. They must have forgotten which ends went to which. Cause what they did, was to solder all four ends together in one mass. We thought about cutting them apart and following them back, but it would have been too time consuming. The connection is solid and has been working fine, so we taped and heat shrinked and put it all back together and rewrapped everything.

The icing on the cake today was, when I went to install some new studs in my water pump, I realized it was a long shaft pump! I ordered a short shaft, but I did not get one. I could not tell, until I removed the water pump pulley. I knew the pulleys were wrong for my setup, but I have both A/C and NON A/C pulleys for my 1970 accessory brackets. I would have used the pump off my old engine, but did not have, nor could I find a gasket for the pump. I ended up ordering a whole new pump from T/A. It should arrive Tuesday, so we can take a couple of days to paint it up and then put it on, over the weekend. Boy, I sure hate to rip open the front end, when it is not even leaking. Sorry to ramble, I just needed to vent.:af:

    Regards, John.:(
