Should't you grab the rotors and calipers?

I would grab the motor and tranny. You know the condition of them and they can easily be cleaned up. I would pull the plugs as mentioned and try to fire it up now to clean it up before pulling it and storing it. Also, grab the front brake components, and any top mechanism parts you can get a hold of. They are hard to find in decent shape. Good luck and let me know if you decide to part with any thing such as the rearend.

    Hi Kimson,
Grab the engine and transmission and if possible grab the motor and trans mounts. Full size cars with 350's are much cheaper than their big block brothers. If you've got the engine and mounts the swap would be very easy. It widens your options.

Based on your work on the green giant I don't think a concourse restoration is in your future. So find a nice LeSabre with a 350-2 and make a monster out of it.

It's a shame you're limited in storage space. A convertible frame under a hardtop coupe would take a lot of the twist out of the chassis.

This probably won't apply in Kimson's case since it sounds like he's renting, but maybe it could help someone else in the future:

Check your Homeowner's policy. Some will cover damage to vehicles stored on the home's driveway. We got nailed with a couple big hailstorms over the last few years and I know of a few individuals who had only liability coverage on their car but were able to get the damage repaired via their homeowner's coverage. Its definitely worth asking!

Kimson, if the car was in a spot assigned specifically to your apartment, its worth the phone call to see if there's any chance of coverage under renter's insurance.

Glad to see the parts removal process is moving along. I thought you just did the front brakes? If so grab them, it doesn't hurt. Same with engine and transmission, it will be harder but worth it. That should be around 700lbs in the back of the 'yota.

Hey Kimson, Does CA have any kind of victim's fund? Maybe you could get something for being the victim of a crime?

Finally back at the computer, it's been a long day.. For once in a long time it feels like the day went by without a problem. Back at Galpin Auto Sports Mr. White showed up with his 72 LeSabre, what a sweet ride. He's custom made 15*8 rallye rims for it, got a built 350 in it, it's really cool..

If you can find em, you can hire the A-TEAM. It's me. Daniel another Swede, who is a neighbor and car nut. Our local Buick guru Bill Moore, who brought the cherry picker. And of course Lisa who has been taking the pictures.

I always wanted an engine on a stand to tinker with, I just didn't expect it to come my way like this.

Making sure the engine isn't going anywhere. The suspension was way down on the truck.

The engine is now unloaded in the back yard in the area know to you as the "Blair witch paint booth" I''ll plug everything up tomorrow, I just wrapped some plastic over it for the night.

The plan would be to get a car which drives, then "build" this engine to make some extra horses. I really like going to the track, and hopefully I can return some day.

It feels really good to have taken the engine, I never thought it would be possible; but with some extra help we pulled through and it has now been saved. Tomorrow I'll arrange for the yard people to come and pick the car up. I recently did the front brakes, but the caliper gaskets are probably melted and things aren't looking exactly like what you would want to start with. The disk brakes were standard on all these 71+ cars, so it's not a big loss. I wanted to take something from the top frame, but it's way burned, the latches are useless, all burned.

My plan for all the stuff is to hang on to it until I get my next car. If I get something else than a 71-73 big car, then I'll let everything go.

The support and the contributions for me getting another car has been just .... I'm speechless.. I can't find words for it.

Alan, you're right. I hadn't considered the geography. Although I think my insurance company may be rating the policy on the basis that at least some of those cars are still in Illinois. I keep forgetting to cancel my homeowner's insurance with them for my place up there that I sold in May. They may drop me after I do that, I'm not sure they write policies down here. Insurance in MS isn't cheap either considering all the severe weather (severe thunderstorms with hail, wind, hurricanes, etc.). My homeowners insurance is like a factor of four or five times higher compared to up in the Chicago area.

    Point taken though.
