Lets talk nitrous on a 350

I'm gathering info on how to make the 350 happy with the funny gas.

I've got a bunch of stuff from past posts but still looking for more...

Who was it that sprayed his stock 350 to 11 or 12 sec slips?? How much juce was that??

I know Guy has tons of tips too, so I'm ready to take notes.

You will not be able to run nitrous with a stock intake. The stock intake has just 4 holes in it and the nitrous plate is open and the spray bar goes right down the middle. You will at the very least need the TA intake to make the nitrous work. There is only a center divider in that intake.

I use the TA intake with a 1 inch open spacer then the spray bar nitrous plate then the Carb. I also have Forged pistons with the 73 capscrew rods with everything balanced. My best time was an 11.87 with a 125hp shot. #62 nitrous jets and a#61 fuel jet. I used a 750dbl pump Holley 72 primary jets and 80 secondary jets

Even with the TA intake with the center divider you are limited with how much nitrous to give it because the center divider can cause distribution problems. This is why I need a singleplane intake.

You might be able to get the top shot Nitrous system as this system goes on top of the carb above the carb venturies and this might work for you. But this might be money wasted if you plan on building a new motor. If anything get the TA intake then you can get a regular Nitrous system.

Your right, I'll probly save my money for my new motor. Thanks for the info anyway though.

    FoGG IT! ! !

Just throw a Direct Port kit ( aja- "Fogger") on the Iron Intake. Then you can spray the nitrous without fuel distribution issues. You can get Sportsman NOS kits off E-Bay for a good price. Direct port kits need the intake pulled off so you can drill and tap the top of the runners for the nozzles. It's all a small price to pay for the power of the bottle. :TU: :Brow:

    Guy,

11.87 on a 125 shot is very impressive. What else can you tell us about your setup: gears, converter, head work, cam? 395hp is a respectable N.A. number for a 350. Those are some nice 60' times too.

I just reread some my old post. Interesting read even for me. I had broken my driveshaft after the 11.87 run last year and it has just taken me till now to get the car running. I had a new trans rebuilt. I decided to go with a 200r4 so I would have overdrive. I also have a new torque convertor. I dropped down the stall speed on this because the old conv. with 125 shot of Nitrous was blowing the 3500 conv. to 5000 rpm. I changed to 3000 with lock up.

I also got a new driveshaft with Spicer universals and man are these unis. huge. Won't be able to break these.

Unfortunetely the new Torque conv caused my 60ft to go up to the 1.90 range. Part of this is due to my coil was giving up (MSD), and I thought the carb was giving me problems because the car was bogging on the initial hit of the carb. So right now I have to retune the carb.

My best run was a 13.70 with no Nitrous. I just wanted to get a few runs in on the new trans before I hit the Nitrous. But now I have a friend that works for Akron Horsepower that is going to help me out with my Nitrous tune and we will see how much we can get out of it. They have a Car Dyno at their shop. Check them out, they are located at 1562 Massillion Rd. in Akron Ohio Ph. 330-794-8950 fax 330-794-8960. Then it will be time to go back to the track.

I used a TA intake and 310 cam, went 11.22 @117 at a fairly elevated track. Car weighed 3640. About a 200 hp shot with poor tune, "way too much fuel pressure". That setup was the most fun I had at the track to date. :TU:

So Jeff about the fuel pressure, what psi # was it at and were you using a regulator. Any other settup tips?

I had it tee'd off the carb regulator at 6.75 psi.,that is a nono. Run a seperate regulator atleast. You could get away with a good electric fuel pump for the carb and N20 system. Set the pressure as in the instuctions and work your way down in 1/4 lb adjustments or less.

Note. There are many ways of tuning your nitrous system and how extensive you want to dial it in.

I use 373 gears, 28" tire, 750 dbl pmp Holley, 350 trans, was now 200r4, TA intake, TA roller rockers, MSD dist, Heads have larger TA valves, flow was 235 intake 176 exhaust ported, 1 3/4 Jet Hot TA headers, 73 cap screw rods, index ground crank, new timing cover larger gears plus oil mods 55 psi@3000 rpm, pop mech. cam 230-245@50 507-502 lift, 3500 loose stall convertor, can foot brake to 3000, now a 3000 stall w/lockup for 200r4 much tighter, 1 inch open spacer plate, Nitrous works Nitrous 125 hp jets used, TA rearend cover, Flowmaster mufflers, Headman x-pipe, 2 1/2" exhaust. Most of this combo is about 10 years old now. I just installed the Nitrous last year. I had the TA 510 cam in in the beginning this gave the 395 hp to the engine but was slow out of the hole, this cam needed my loose convertor but didn't have it then. I think this about covers it.

I like your turbo set up have you been to the track yet?
