I drove 1950 miles round trip down to the Nationals and back and blew out reverse on my 2005 Chevy Silverado 4 door when attempting to back the car trailer down my driveway when I got back to Jersey. I couldnt believe with only 72,000 on the odometer, the tranny started slipping and should have held up without any problems. I was looking for a Chevy 2500 HD with the diesel engine when my wife did comparisons with the Dodge 2500, Ford F250 and the Chevy 2500 HD and it appeared the Tundra was the way to go. I limped the Silverado over to a dealer and traded it in with some added $$$ for a 2008 Toyota Tundra 4 door Crew Cab. I would have opted for a 2009 Tundra but Toyota did not make them in 09. I call it the "Lexus on steroids" because it has 387HP and 401 foot pounds of torque and a 6 speed transmission. It has a towing capacity of 10,100 pounds and it's plenty for me. It hauls ass and has every conceivable option to include leather, blue tooth and sunroof. Most importantly - the wife likes it. We also extended the warranty to 7 years and 100,000 miles and would hope this truck works out. The reviews have been very positive and in speaking with other Tundra owners, they speak highly of them. :TU: Mike Iggycat NJ
No new cars for me now, no new cars for me tomorrow, no new cars for me EVER! I hate 'em! Glad to see your happy. :TU: Wish I could have gotten your old truck.:Brow:
MIKE I am on my 2nd Tundra ..they are great trucks you will not regret your purchase....I put 146k on my first one and sold it for 10,900 after 6 years ! My 2nd one here I plan on keeping even longer...I wanted to buy the new one but the closeout deals on the 2006 double cabs were too good to pass up as they had both the old body style and new body style on the lot at the same time...I dont regret it but the new one is alot cooler looking and who wouldnt want 381hp AND better mileage than my 271 hp v8....J
yea i'm also on the same wagon about probably never owning a new car...but this is a truck and thats different p Toyota trucks last forever, onlything i heard bad about the new tundras was the weld seam at the end of the tailgate comming apart if you load **** on it alot
Forever? http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/29/reports-of-aggressively-rusting-toyota-pickup-frames-mounting http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/tundra/117206-tundra-tailgate-failures-i-am-club/ http://www.bodyshopzone.com/editorial/about_Toyota/Tundra_quality_problem.html At least Toyota will try to do the customer right in most cases. Not posting to be a jerk and wish you all the best with the new truck but seriously people need to realize all machines have issues.
X2 Plus didn't you research tundra recalls? Trans failures, camshaft breaking, failed balljoints, airbag recall, brake failures. The list is huge.
Maybe I should post the shirt I'm wearing and allow people to criticize my purchase because it was sewn in Malaysia. I don't think a stranger would have the nerve to check out the tags on the back of my shirt and comment on its origin, yet it's ok when it comes to cars? In the spirit of Memorial Day and the freedoms that servicemen and -women have preserved for us, I find it ironic that the new Toyota owner is criticized for the freedom to buy what suits his needs.
Its a shame the board has got this way. Perhaps its just me but I dont remember all this bickering and negativity taking place on here just a few years ago... Mike. Congratulations on your Truck! I would delete this thread and start a new one. Or ask that the mods lock it to prevent the hijack. Bert
i was refering more to their driveline, toyota frames always had problems with their trucks but as long as you put some por-15 coating them some rhinoliner on the frame it'll last a hell lot longer
I didnt mean to start a flame war. That wasnt my intention. I was just a little surprised that's all. Your absolutely right Diego. We have the freedom to buy whatever we like. Just dont complain when the US Auto industry goes bankrupt and we lose hundreds of thousands of jobs in this country. Oh wait a sec...that already happened, sorry. If your happy, we're happy Mike. Congrats. :beers2: And I sincerely mean that.
I don't consider this negativity. Looks more like facts to me. If I had one of these trucks I would appreciate the other board members bringing these issues to my attention. Also if you buy one of these Asian trucks be prepared to defend why you bought it, this is an American car board after all.:beers2:
If they go bankrupt, it's most certainly because of the consumer, not because their products' trannys konked out at 80,000 miles.
I agree ....I believe the bazillion dollar San Antonio Plant created a stimulus to that local economy ...the first Tundra assembly plant in Indiana created jobs too .......when a Tundra or foreign car needs "frequent" repairs it will be fixed by American mechanics in independant American shops OR at the local Toyota dealership employing local mechanics too........so if they are in fact pieces of shix (as some of you hint) -why worry -it is going to be frequent work for American mechanics...... I have found the contrary - Toyota quality has edged out every American car I have ever purchased unfortunately.,,,,when I can get = quality for the dollar spent I will buy American. We have a free economy / country that allows us to purchase whatever brand we want and our borders are intentionally open to foreign -imported competition because we are not afraid as a country to compete even on our own soil ......it helps drive our U.S. products to be better in the end (competition). Dont worry though Ford still sold ~4.4 times more F series than Tundra sales as of March 2009 , Silverados were about ~3.66 times what the Tundras sold, Dodge even outpaced ~ 2.54 times what Tundras sold ...Tundra is SIXTH in sales first quarter 09 . Peace. http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2009/04/march-2009-top-10-truck-sales.html
Hope you like the truck however I would have bought an American vehicle in these times too. Don't get me wrong, the Toyota is great and I have owned a few in the past. Guess I am only hoping buying US products will help out. Probably not. I know clothes are made elsewhere. But I have a very hard time finding the ones made here. If I see the US lable on them I put them in the cart. As for TV's. Not much of a choice there. The foreign countries have took that market over now along with clothes. Plus, the fact that Nissan, Toyota, ...... built companies here doesn't make things even to me. The "big" money goes back over seas IMO. So, I can find American car builders still. It's not as hard to find them as many other products we have to buy. Yes they use some over seas parts, but at least it's a US company. And I have not had issues with quality in over a decade with US vehicles. We build GREAT cars and trucks now. No flame here either. Just my opinion. Again, I hope your Toyota truck last for many years.
i think it's pretty sad that a board member buys a new truck, is excited about it, decides to tell us about it, yet some of you question why he didn't buy american. what about all our tv's, toasters, ovens, phones, etc. are all these american made? isn't life too short to worry about this stuff?ou:
Well, if they didn't worry about this stuff, they'd worry about other non-issue stuff like nipples on the Super Bowl.
