And having a bankruptcy follow you with all your financial dealings for the next several years is not a good thing. Who ultimately pays for the bankruptcy's? It's all eventually passed down to the end user with higher prices.
And all this so Dale can keep a car....or several......its not the responsible thing to do. He's doing the responsible thing in offloading some extra luxuries, if in fact it comes down to that. I would hope he can hold onto it, but it is just a car. And maybe when things straighten out he can get another.
Sorry your threads been hijacked Dale, and I wish you success in dealing with both your health and financial issues.

bankruptcy is overrated.it isnt the end of the world, but does help a person get back on track.
within a short period of time,a person can reestablish their credit after a BK.

    responsible???

when a major corporation files for bankruptcy protection from debtors, then later tries to buy a competitor,is that ok??

    it happens every day.

but this guy can't file a bankruptcy so he can keep the one asset that is appreciating in value??

    amazing.

A car is only a car. Take care of your family and get some piece of mind.

Wow. The 1st pic of your GSX under the tree is some of the best photography (intentional or not) of a Buick I have Ever seen. The contrast of the GSX to the shade of the trees leaves was breathtaking. Thanks,it is now my desktop...Fish

A lot of advice! Much good and some to be scrutinized carefully.
Bankruptcy? Not my bag. I wouldn't want anyone to do that to me! I'm a hard worker, and accumilated what I have through just that, hard work. If I have a debt, I will find some way of paying it off, whatever that may be. I've raised two kids & now have 4 grandchildren and love them all. But I have had to sell some nice cars over the years to get them where they are now. No regrets. Would be nice to have some of those cars back, but you can't re-live the past. So live the present! Found out your family, health, and peace of mind mean way more than anything material! When I sell Buick, I'll be down to one classic, and my wife and I can have a great deal of good times with that!
I appreciate the suggestions, but that's not one I could live with.

I agree with Andy on the bankruptcy issue. Even Donald Trump has filed for it, and Im sure he kept his helicopter when he did it. The hard working people of america rarely get to use assistance from our government, while the fat lazy welfare americans do nothing and get paid for it. Take advantage of anything you can for your well being, you deserve it much more than some crackhead with 7 kids!!!!!!:beer

I dont see any problems selling your GSX if you still have another buick! Looking at your sig it looks like you have a couple! I really dont see what the big deal is about GSX's, so I'd sell it, support your family, and hopefully you'll have some money left over for your other cars. In all reality you can have a better car than a GSX through after market products for much less than what your Buick will bring. Also, about the flippers, I really dont see the problem with selling to them, as long as you make all the money and leave them with a car they hopefully cant sell for more than what they paid! Best of luck.

Re: It hurts! All over again!

Well, was back into hospital again! Beat the odds this time. Gave me very small odds of surviving! Went in with severe stomach pain and found tare in arterey feeding intestines after doing exploratory surgerey. Had to remove 3 feet of intestine and repair arterey. Told my wife very few people survive. But here I am. Been released to home but will be slow recovery. Insission is still open. Said it heals better from inside to out.
Anyways, this is not an advertisement of car for sale, although it has confirmed our previous decision! When the time comes, I will do it fairly to all. This is just an update and am again looking for some advise.
Shortly after I bought the car, I bought almost $20,000 worth of parts from Year One for the GSX. Should I try to sell parts with car, seperately as a group of parts, or individually? I know there may be some who will only restore with NOS parts only, so it will make it more challenging for me. Suggestions would be appreciated!
    Thanx, Dale

Never take a Buick to BJ to sell. They are no reserve auctions and in general they have never brought much money for Buicks.

Glad your home, and you beat the prognosis,Devine Intervention?
Get well and be patient with getting to normal, been there done that, still recovering, but with spousal support and friends you can do it.Hope you can keep the "X" but its only metal and there are more important things in life.
Hold your head up you'll make it,and what ever decision you make its for the best and no regrets.
    thinking of you, carpe diem!

Thanks a bunch Gary and Sandy!

Any thoughts on selling $20,000 worth of parts from Year One with the car? Should I just tack on about $18,000 to asking price of car? That's the way I really like to get rid of them. Any suggestions?

I Hope and pray your situation is improving,If the parts are not particuliar needed for the car now and are just spares I would sell em seperate. It would be much more time consuming to sell each part individually but will yield better money that way I would think. If anything whoever purchases the car give them a shot at buying what parts they want and sell the leftover parts seperate that they cannot use.I probably would not sell all parts with the car as I think that way you would be on the losing end and never get the value of them back in a package deal with the car...........Take care and hope you get a fair price.........

If you sell all the parts, maybe it takes some financial pressure off from selling the car.

As George N has just posted up this GSX for sale, which looks like a very nice one for $80K, I think you should be able to draw your own conclusions how much more or less yours is worth based on condition and options. I think the 4spds are going for a little more than the autos, but could be wrong.

    Mike,

I think that asking price is different than selling price. I used to own the car you listed and I am very intersted to know if that car would pull that type of money. The car has been for sale on E-Bay at least twice and never broken 60K. It is a very solid car but does need a complete restoration. Additionally with the prices being what they are there are a lot more cars up for sale than what I have seen in the last 15 years of watching GSX prices and availability.

I'd try to keep the X if possible by selling the parts separately, you could always get new restoration parts, and if you need to sell the X later it won't go down in value.Usually when someone buys a car with extra parts they expect to get the parts dirt cheap.I think you'd get less than market value if you included them

Thanks for the thoughts and concerns!

Nice car to compare to. Looking at his, I'd say mine, with a little work, is a nice driver in need of a restoration. Therefore may-be mid 50's and low 70's with the parts. Parts would be probably enough to complete restoration with new parts. We'll find out when I'm in position to sell.

JC's GSX 4 speed was just listed on E-bay at no reserve. There was also another one listed on Auta.com that is listed as being at the Volo Museum, though currently not listed on that sight I too have watched with interest, and have tried to acquire more than one of the recent advertised X cars for sale. To me, A restored car is worth a lot more than a non restored. A stage 1 GSX would be worth near double that of the same caliber non Stage. A four speed car is worth a minimum of 10 k over an automatic. Paperwork also adds considerably to the value of the automobile. I know everyone wants as much as they can for their car. However at this time the market is not populated with the speculator, who have been responsible for much rise in prices. Top quailty cars will always command top dollar. But cars owners who want for 60 to 70 percent of what a totally restored car will bring will be wating along time in this current market situation. I wish all that are selling there cars at this time, the best of luck. It is a very difficult time to get top money.
I would be very interested in seeing actual sale numbers and figures for these cars. I know I was stunned for how much Mr. AReed recent sale on E bay for a car that would have taked well over 6 figures to get to a restored state. It just my 2 cents worth. That being said I will continue to look for a GSX that will fit my budget. Jim
