Just wondering what everyone's views are on the different choices for intake manifolds. For a street car with headers, a bit of cam and a slightly higher stall converter, what's the best manifold? Offenhauser 360 Edelbrock Torker Edelbrock B4B Poston S-divider TA Performance I'm not sure how the poll option works, but here goes...
for your set up i would run one of the edelbrock dual planes, i would only recommend a single plane if you have a 2500 stall and 355 gears or higher. , even a stock intake with the center divider cut down 1'' and some port work will perform just as well on your set up, i think that the after market dual planes are only good for weight savings, on a mild street strip moter.
Thanks Kelly - your info on my other post was great too! Qjet, pump, 118 cam and some 10:1 pistons. Now to raid the piggy bank for custom headers...
Seems like the Edelbrock Performer ought to be in there. I run one on an engine similar to the one described above. It does well and I'm pleased with it.
How about a choice for stock? I was advised (by J.W.) that a stock manifold would be good for a moderate street motor. Intake was one of the last places to spend your bucks.
What manifold to use!!! I have b4b on the 455GS1970 convertable I have TAPerformance Stage1 on the 355/200r4/342 gear on my 72LeSabre sport coupe  My daughter just installed the same manifold on her 72 Skylark coupe :Brow: Also on my 494/200r4/355eaton 12bolt 69 Skylark TAPerformance SP1 for those fast passes. :3gears: Its your call!!! Nick White
Intake I have the Edelbrock Performer with a 870 Holley and 1 inch spacer. I like it. Not much differance from stock but it's lighter! Mike
Ok Chris, I have to ask... How did you crack that thick, heavy piece if iron? o No: By dropping a cylinder head on it?
I have tossed a couple of 455 intakes due to cracks, they both cracked across the carb opening, I think it must have to do with the heat passage crossover....they can be very hard to spot but yet leak enough air to cause issues.one was 70 and other was 72. I can find pics maybe if you are curious. I too have an edlebrock perfomer on my car, simply because it saves 25 pounds and looks stock... Later Tim
i have a edlebrock performer on a 71 i have a poston on a 71 same carbs pretty darn close think just think i like the edlebrock
The majority says spend the $250 on other mods and stay with the stock intake. Is this a 1970 stock intake ??? I have a 1973 intake with air rails, so I was wondering how the performer stacked up against it !!!
S-Divider I'm running about 10-1 with the 118 cam and edelbrock 750 and Stage One ported heads with the Poston intake. I really like the performance I get out of the combo. And the weight difference is incredible. I've strained many a gonad changing the stock one in the car. :eek2:
Gary Paine ported the snot outta my B4B, and it is NEVER coming off my car! I'm convinced that is why is performs so well.
So... for everyone that is using an aluminum intake with iron heads, what did you use for intake gasket... composite or metal valley pan? I have a guy building a 70 SF455 for me (mild build). He is convinced that you must use composite or you will crack the intake seal because of expansion and contraction. I have had an Edelbrock Performer 455 on my 400 with iron heads for five years without any issues... Thoughts??? Thanks, Gil
70sf block, 67heads, performer. Only had heads slightly milled to clean surface. No other milling. Valleypan gasket, no problems.... New 464. milled alum. heads, 0 decked block, sp1. TA comp. gasket with valley pan. In otherwords, like Larry said on you're other thread. You're machinist will know. I wouldn't risk breaking an intake trying to save a few bucks. But that's just me and just my opinion. Hope it all works out. :3gears:
